Caramel Frosting I

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
Excellent! I made a double batch, using half and half in place of milk, and frosted the Colonial Pumpkin Bars (from AR) with it.

This stuff is wonderful (and highly addictive). The kids were scarfing it down like Chex was going out of business!

Colonial Pumpkin Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
These are very moist and delicious! However, I didn't frost them with the cream cheese frosting. I took the advice of another reviewer and used a caramel frosting (Caramel Frosting II from AR). I also baked them in a 13x9 pan. I must have eaten half of them myself last night!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Pretty darn good. I did end up doubling the cinnamon, and using a full cup of pumpkin. I also used 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips, which I feel are perfect and don't overpower the pumpkin flavor.

We loooved these! Did not change a thing. They tuned out soft and cakey, and the icing was a perfect compliment.

Basic Corn Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Very good recipe. I did as one reviewer suggested and added an extra egg. I also added a chopped jalapeno and about 4oz. of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. They definitely had a bite to them! (sidenote: the kids wouldn't touch them because they had "green things" in them)

Praline Sundae Topping

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2009
Excellent! I used part of this for the CARAMEL APPLE BARS II, also from the AR website, and the other part as topping for a huge bowl of Schwan's vanilla ice cream (our family fave). I did have to return the pan to a low heat after adding the evapo milk, just to get the suagr clumps to dissolve, but it was worth the trouble for sure.

Caramel Apple Bars II

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2009
OMG! These were incerdible. I baked them in a 9x9 inch pan, instead of the 10x15, so they were thick and gooey. I did increase the bake time. The bottom layer I baked for 11 minutes, and the whole thing for 28 minutes. Instead of caramel ice cream topping, I used 1 1/2 cups of the PRALINE SUNDAE TOPPING, also from the AR website (I left the pecans out). I dusted the apples with a little cinnamon before I topped with the walnuts, caramel mixture, and remaining crust layer. This recipe is definitely going to become a fall staple!!!

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2009
What a yummy recipe! I did not change a thing, but will only add a couple tablespoons of water next time, as oppossed to the 1/2 cup that is called for. I used early season Macintosh apples, as we have a ton of them right now here in Michigan. They have the perfect tart flavor to compliment the sweetness of this recipe. I will definitely be making this again and again!

Zucchini Herb Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2009
I did as other reviewers suggested and doubled the spices. I also added crushed tomatoes instead of the chopped (personal preference). I topped it with a ton of cheese, and the kiddos really gobbled it up!

Worlds Best Bacon Cheese Dip

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
I served this dip at a jewelry party, and the ladies LOVED it! Several left with the recipe in hand. I did make few tweaks though. I used two pkgs. of cream cheese, instead of one, added a clove of minced garlic, and used 1/2 a pkg. of real bacon bits (because I did NOT want my house to smell like bacon before my party). I combined everything, then shredded an additional 4 oz. of swiss cheese on top and sprinkled it with some more bacon bits. I baked it in the oven at 375 for about 15-20 minutes. It was delicious served with whole wheat crackers and seasame sticks.

Yummy Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
This is the best lasagna I have made, and I have tried a lot of recipes. Some changes I made were using two cloves of fresh minced garlic, in place of the garlic powder. Instead of a small can of crushed tomatoes, I used a large 28 oz can. I also add one teaspoon of dried basil to the sauce while it is simmering.

French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
I have tried every pie crust known to man, with marginal luck at best, and this one is by far the best. It stays together well, tastes wonderfully flaky and yummy, and best of all, it didn't cause my husband to seek refuge on the opposite end of our house while I was making pies.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
This is supremely excellent!! I added cinnamon and nutmeg to the sugar mixture, then combined it with the apples before pouring it into the bottom crust. I was in a yank (as usual) and didn't want to bother with the lattice crust, so I just sliced the top crust open in a few places, then brushed it with a little melted butter and brown sugar mixture. I also reduced the cook temp to 375 for the first 15 minutes, then to 350 for the rest, and covered the edges with my aluminum pie crust protector.

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
These were excellent! I took the advice of the other reviewers and doubled the filling, with the exception of tripling the lemon juice (definitely use fresh sqeezed), and using 1 3/4 cups of sugar. I also doubled the crust, but would not recommend doing that. It makes the bars taste more like shortbread than lemon, and the crust gets soggy if you don't eat them all immediately. I decreased the cook temp to 350 as suggested, and baked the crust for 12 minutes, then the whole thing for just under 20 minutes.

I like this, but the next time I will leave out the green pepper. I love green pepper, but not in my spaghetti sauce. Otherwise, I would have given this a five star rating.

Brownie Caramel Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
This did NOT work out well for me! The brownie was hard and would not cut, along with the caramel, which was super sticky and equally difficult to cut. I followed the top reviewers and still wound up with a heavy, hard, mess of a cheesecake. Maybe I did something wrong? I'm not sure.

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

This is so delicious! I used salted butter, as that is what I had, and half and half instead of milk. Hard to stop sneaking giant spoonfools into my mouth!
