About this Cook
I am a Mother, step-mother, wife and everything in-between.
My favorite things to cook
All things. Love baking and experimenting with strong flavors. Mexican, Italian, Asian, etc, etc, etc
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving giant smorsgasbord, and Christmas baking.
My cooking triumphs
Many. I think everytime new recipe makes it into my book means a new triumph. I really like it when a new cheesecake falvor turns out.
My cooking tragedies
Oh gosh, many. Accidentally mixing in my lemon zest and juice into the cream cheese and milk mixture one time (for a cheesecake), or making my first turkey ever when I was 18 and thought I would "slow roast" it in the oven with bourbon, and it was undercooked and slimy. Blah!

Spring Asparagus Salad
I was surprised at how much flavor the asparagus did not hold. I normally cook my asparagus in a vinegar sauce and add a bit of sugar, so this was a little more bland than what my family is used to being served, however, I really enjoyed the combination of flavors in the dressing. Not sure I would have ever thought to mix 2 different vinegars.

Banana Pudding IV
I really liked this recipe. I made some changes, but it still went into the permanent cookbook. I used one pureed banana and beat it into the cream cheese. I also doubled the vanilla, and read the reviews and followed what others said with the pudding; I used 2/3 of a small packet of banana cream pudding and 2/3 of a packet of vanilla pudding. I also used real cream instead of milk (and added just a bit more to compensate for the thickness). I put this into a trifle dish and layered it with the vanilla wafers. It turned out really good. I also sprinkled cinnamon on top for visual decor. I skipped the sliced bananas and whipped topping on the top, just so it would be easier to store.

Cherry Bars
They were good, but the dough part was not quite what I expected. I will increase the sugar the next time I make. And I think I will add flavors to the cherry pie filling; I'm just not that fond of the canned pie mix. But it certainly was a decent dessert that was pretty easy, I gotta give it that.
