I have lived in Wisconsin all my life, except for a couple of brief periods in Oklahoma (Fort Sill). My cooking influence was from my German ancestry. My maternal grandmother started cooking in lumber camps at 9 years of age! There weren't a lot of written recipes, but I have figured many of them out from cooking with my mother.
My favorite things to cook
I have always liked to try new things in cooking, and have always been interested in recipes from other cultures from the time I was in high school.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am the oldest girl in my family, and learned to cook at an early age. I think that I have preserved some of the cooking traditions from my mother and grandmother, more so than other family members.
My cooking triumphs
My husband loves a family traditional recipe of "Noodles & Eggs." It is very simple, and a way to use leftover pasta. He cooks extra pasta, just so he can make it the next day.
My cooking tragedies
My daughter and I made chili rellenos, and it was a lot of work, so we ended up putting everything together in a baking dish. It didn't look very pretty, but tasted okay. Haven't made it since!
