Dill Pickles

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2009
Great recipe! I doubt I will ever buy store bought pickles again. These are much better. Sampled two jars so far and they keep getting better. I grew pickling cucumbers this year and luckily found this recipe. I chilled the cucumbers overnight in the fridge since I had a crunchier variety to begin with. They turned out great. I followed the recipe and a bit of advice of the others by adding a dash of mustard seed and celery seed to each jar. Also, used dill sprigs and a teaspoon of dill seed as dill heads were nowhere to be found. We like the whole pickles best but did some spears. All the jars sealed (short water bath) but two. Lots of crunch and love the flavor. Easier than I thought it would be. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

Hamburger Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
Thanks Marge! I had doubts but wanted to make something different. Nice surprise. I will make it exactly as stated next time but only had beef broth and fresh vegetables from the garden on hand. Pitched in potatoes, grn beans, carrots, zucchini, corn, peas, etc. Other than that I made it on the stove and followed directions. My onion soup package was 2 1/2 ounces so thanks to the reviewers who mentioned the difference in package sizes. I used only 2 ounces and added the a medium onion and the flavor was Hmmmm good. Not strong at all. Agree about cooking on the stove. My cooking time was only about 20 or 25 minutes, so maybe pass on the slow cooker. Also, try some homemade croutons on top. Toss cubed sourdough bread(or other)in olive oil and parm. cheese. Toast cubes in toaster oven. My doubting husband ate 2 big bowls. Looking forward to the leftovers. It's a keeper and will make a double batch next time to freeze for a rainy day.

After-Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

I had a bit of trouble adjusting seasonings (Thanks for the tips) and wound up adding more rice to make it thicker. But it turned out great and made huge pot. Great with hot crusty rolls.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

I've made pot roast with onion soup mix and with cream of mushroom soup but was doubtful about using both in the same recipe. It was wonderful.

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
This pie was a hit Thanksgiving. So good. Everyone had it warm with vanilla ice cream. I didn't have bourbon (AND IT WAS SUPER)but plan to make it again with. As other reviewers mentioned, use a really deep dish pie pan or two shallow ones.

A friend tried this and loved it so we had at Thanksgiving. My family LOVED it. My husband asked for this from now on. I baked the potatoes in foil and then mashed as one reviewer suggested. Wonderful flavor and easy. Thanks for the new tradition.

Cranberry Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
We're hooked. It was really good. I served it on Thanksgiving with the topping given by one of the reviewers here which is also excellent. I couldn't find the cherries anywhere and finally used a can of fruit cocktail I happened to have. Used whole cranberries. My sister-in-law and niece hate cranberries but LOVED it. Will make with cherries next time. Still, rave reviews from everyone. Thanks for the recipe!

Leftover Chicken a la King

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
Enjoyed the recipe very much. Quick, easy and a great way to use a small amount of leftover chicken. I did use a little more cornstarch than called for to thicken it. My husband asked for his over rice and cleaned his plate while I spooned mine over cresent rolls. Good on a cold evening! Thanks again.
