About this Cook
I am a 22 year old college student. I've gone 4 years away from mother's cooking, and rarely make it home to rememeber what real food tastes like. So, I figure since im truly a big girl now, it's about time I start making myself learn more than Stoffer's Lasanga and Ragu Speghetti. I live with my boyfriend now so I have the most eager taste tester. I figure this is my chance to prove I can be a worthy cook...if I plan on getting that ring one day! :)
My favorite things to cook
I love using my slow cooker, it makes things super easy on me since I hasve a busy schedule. I dont have a favorite thing to cook yet, as I havent completely mastered anything, except for maybe cupcakes...and even those come of of a pillsbury box. But I love the oven, so if theirs something I can easily prepare and through in my over or slow cooker Im game!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We dont really have any family cooking traditions. Unless you consider an abuse of salt, pepper and butter a tradition! ha. But no, My mother has this knack with casseroles, I have no idea what it is. She can just throw things together, bake it and wala. I wish I could do that. My mother makes an amazing macaroni and cheese dish, maybe one day I can steal her recipe and post it to see what you guys think. Or, Id love someone to prove me wrong with a dish that could trump my mothers.
My cooking triumphs
I've mastered the art of boxed cupcakes! :) I have my first recipe from this site in the oven. It's an easy meatloaf recipe. It was really easy to prepare, and Im hoping that it tastes as wonderful as it smells. I HOPE! :)If my first mastered dish can be a meatloaf...I'll be quite proud of myself.
My cooking tragedies
FRIED CHICKEN! I just suck...enough said. Somebody, please teach me how to fry things.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Gravy
i absolutly found this recipe delicious. however I altered it a bit. i used a deep fryer and I added my own seasonings, because it sounded bland. I used italion seasoning, garlic salt and seasoning salt, and pepper. This is the first time i made a fried chicken and my crust didnt come off...must be because of the buttermilk? I didnt make the gravy this time, but i definitly will next time! yum

Ham, Potato, and Cheese Soup
I definitly love this recipe. I love the milk in it. I did alter it a bit. I used 1 onion, a stalk of celery and one chopped carrot. I also used salt and pepper and basil and some shredded cheddar cheese. Very delicious. :) will make again before winter is over.
