About this Cook
Married 20 years, mom of 2 girls, i boy, and 2 dogs. I'm a kitchen designer and work at home when work is available. I volunteer at our local food pantry and our church, and am a girl scout leader.
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake, especially cookies. I also like to make one pot meals, salads, one pot meals, and desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We like our cookies very crispy, so my mom modified the toll house cookie recipe which is how I make my cookies. Also, my dad is from the UP (Michigan) so we have a great family recipe for Cornish Pasties. Also grew up eating roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
My cooking triumphs
My neighbors love my chocolate chip cookies, also have had good luck with a few good appetizer recipes. When I was in college I tried baking croissants from scratch, and they were good! I don't have the time for that type baking anymore and do end up using mixes as much as I can.
My cooking tragedies
Pork chops! Every time I've tried to cook them they get dry and tough. Meat in general is challenging for me, except for grilling.

Shrimp Egg Foo Yung
These were good, they make a healthly lunch or dinner. I added a little cornstarch to the eggs as another reviewer suggested, but they still ran a little. I also added a lot of extra soy sauce to the gravy because I like it that way. I'll definitely make this again.

To Die For Garlic Feta Pate
This is really good! I used anchovy paste as suggested by some of the other reviews. Also added extra hot sauce and black pepper for some zip. This was very thick, so I thinned it out with some half and half.Great with pita chips.

Crab Stuffed Flounder
This was very good. I saw the recipe last night and just had to try it, though I didn't have all the right ingredients. I subbed shrimp for the crabmeat, and tilapia for the flounder. As per some of the other reviews, I used ritz crackers instead of saltines and added some old bay seasoning to the stuffing. I also added an equal amount of finely chopped onion as the green pepper to the stuffing for some more flavor. I seasoned the fish with salt, pepper, and lemon juice before topping it with stuffing. Next time I will use a little old bay on the fish as well. I think the reason many people found this dish a little bland is because the fish is so mild. Extra seasoning on the fish is probably all this dish needs. I will make this next time with crabmeat.
