Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Like many people here I rate this one only four stars as it really does have to be tweaked to be more than basic. That said, on its own it's a terrific option for low-budget meals that go far--I filled my seven quart crock-pot before leaving for work and came home to a beautiful, thick stew that hadn't reduced a whole lot in volume. I did not brown the meat before putting it in (I don't have much time in the mornings before work); I did add more paprika, more black pepper, more garlic, and much more salt than called-for; as well I added some basil and some white wine. The meat is perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the vegetables are tasty and cooked but not mushy. As has been noted in previous reviews, even on low this stew needs only about 8-9 hours in the crock pot. Yum!

Apple Honey Bundt Cake

I needed something to serve for dessert with friends, one of whom is unable to have milk or soy. This cake not only did the trick, but it turned out fabulous. I used Pink Lady and Royal Gala apples for a blend that turned out to be perfect; the only thing I left out was the nuts. It's a beautiful moist cake, perfect for desserts or for coffee.
