About this Cook
middle-aged amateur cook who doesn't take it too seriously
My favorite family cooking traditions
Southern food, Soul food, traditional recipes and delicious desserts. I like to make a good meal out of ingredients found on-hand.
My cooking triumphs
My holiday specialty is the fruit salad and a great cake.
My cooking tragedies
Tend to walk off doing something else - bad habit for cooks.

Buttermilk Raisin Pie
I didn't have any raisins, left in the egg whites from laziness, didn't make the crust, and still this pudding turned out light and tasty!

Dad's Kentucky Home Fries
This has been my favorite Texas food since childhood. I love to eat the hot potatoes/onions with cold ketchup. There have to be some extra-crispy areas on the taters. Maybe we should just say it's great home cooking with working class roots?

Burrebrede (Scottish shortbread)
I would love to make this again. It's really tasty, and I like the middle ages part. Wouldn't it be good with wine? Could someome tell me how to make it less crumbly? I cooked it in a cast iron pan, spread about 1" thick. Also, is it supposed to bake to a graham cracker brown color? Thanks!
