I am trying to develop some new tastes and techniques in the kitchen. I have been from making my own granola, yogurt, sprouts, bread, etc. to frozen/fast food and, now, making my way back again to something more natural and less refined. Trying to focus on a gentle path in life and being good to my body. Learning yoga. I have five children (ranging in age from 32 to 12 ~ only the 12 year old left at home), who are the greatest blessings in my life. I have a loving, talented husband who is an amazing music teacher and musician, a great cook (he is the grill MASTER!), and someone who makes me want to be a better person.
My favorite things to cook
I am most content in the kitchen when my all my children come for the holidays. My husband is a much better cook than I am, but I clean up the kitchen much better than he does!! My repertoire is a bit staid, but I love to prepare my family's favorites at the holidays ~ and although they are probably not the most organic or nutritious, they are tradition and tradition is precious to me. So . . . Thanksgiving and Christmas both start with Bubble Bread. May family enjoys that while I stuff the bird. Dinner ~ Turkey with cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and giblet gravy, sweet potato casserole (the one with the butter, pecans and brown sugar carmelized on the top), scalloped oysters, positively brussels srpouts and any other vegetable with hollandaise, cranberry/raspberry salad, and all of the requisite desserts ~ Russian Tea Cakes, Pumpkin pies (various types from Kahlua to praline), Apple Pies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
mostly expressed above. I love to bake with the girls during the holidays. My youngest daughter, Emma, loves to cook. Her favorite TV station is the Food Network. We have made bread from scratch (not in a machine). She makes a WONDERFUL buttermilk, bran, golden raisin muffin; and makes great cookies, as well. She wants to learn more and I really want to share that with her. We are also going to learn to make soap and candles together.
