About this Cook
I love to have people in my home to eat and visit. Currently I'm hosting and facilitating a Bible study that begins with a meal. We try new recipes each week (my mother told me to never try a new recipe on compnay, but that's part of the fun... it's recipes NONE of us has ever tried!
My favorite things to cook
Biscuits, Chicken Enchilada Casserole, cookies, fresh or frozen vegetables, baked ham, grilled steaks & pork chops, pan fried & smothered pork chops, turnip green casserole, custard pies, etc., etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Each Christmas morning when my children were growing up, I always cooked what we called "Bulls Eyes" - a piece of break with the middle cut out and fried with an egg cooked in the middle.
My cooking triumphs
I have successfully created a chicken recipe using a sesame/ginger salad salad dressing that we didn't like on salad. I also have had fun making up biscuit recipes, such as banana biscuits. My family likes to eat what I cook - now THAT'S a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
When I began cooking, my mother let me make a meatloaf. I had seen her put all kinds of good stuff in her meatloaf, and it was always good, so I felt compelled to experiment. I put in tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, lettuce, ketchup, mustard.... yes, lettuce! My brothers refused to eat my meatloaf that night! I have since learned how to make a really good meatloaf. Another disaster, was when I cooked a sponge cake... when I took it out of the oven, thinking it was done, I turned it upside down on a bottle. Out it all fell onto the counter! No sponge cake that night!
