Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
My chicken didn't defrost in time for dinner tonight so I came to Allrecipes to find a quick, easy dinner. I didn't have bacon, so I made this vegetarian. It was still absolutely fabulous. Creamy and delicious and easy. I doubled the parm cheese and mixed the eggs and parm before adding to the hot pasta as suggested by another reviewer. So much creamier than the carbornara recipe I usually use! I also saved some of the hot water that that pasta was cooked in to thin out the finished product since it was initially very thick instead of adding olive oil. I've always made my carbornara this way with the hot pasta liquid. Save some unnecessary fat! All of my kids devoured this. Next time I'll add the bacon (morningstar veggie bacon, that is). Thanks for the recipe :)

I have made this about 10x - sometimes I use chicken, sometimes shrimp, sometimes just veggies - whatever I have on hand. We love this simple and tasty dish!

Pecan Pie Bars I

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
Excellent recipe. I used a 9x13 jelly roll pan and cut the recipe down to 24 servings with excellent results. Also, used real butter not margarine and subbed brown sugar for half white. These were a big hit at Thanksgiving and I loved the idea of a short bread crust instead of the pie crust. So much tastier in my opinion. Thank you for sharing. This will be on our thanksgiving menu every year from now on (as well as any other time I feel like pecan pie!!).

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Huge, spectular, gorgeous, delicious cookies that looked right off the cover of any home and cooking magazine. Perfect Texture - crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, overflowing with chocolate chips. What more could you ask for? This will go in my list of favorite cookie recipes. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
We did NOT like this. At All. I was excited about this because of the good reviews and easy prep but ended up sorely dissapointed. Followed the recipe exactly and it was bland and boring. There was no depth to this recipe, no layers of flavors. My mom and grandma's stew was so flavorful and rich and so above and beyond what I got from this recipe. I'll be sticking to my mom and grandma's recipe going forward. Thanks anyways.

Easy Granola Bars

These stayed moist and chewy ~ a true winner in our books! Because this recipe is so versatile you can add what ever additions you want. I added mini choc chips, dried cranberries, raisins and about 1/4 cup peanut butter. It was soooooo good. Also, I subbed flax meal for half of the wheat germ.

Romanian Apple Cake

delicious! Did not add walnuts so our one year old could enjoy it too. Perfect sweetness for us but the amount of sugar to use really depends on your apples. TASTE your apples first, if they are already sweet, reduce your sugar; if they are tart add a bit more. We loved this. Thanks for the recipe!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
Perfect Recipe. I didn't change a thing. The only thing I messed up by accident but didn't alter the taste of it at all was that I mixed together the softened butter and the cinnamon sugar because I didn't read ahead. Also, once my cinnamon buns rose, I put them in the fridge overnight and popped them in the oven the next morning for an easy weekend breakfast. If you do this, don't forget to let them sit out for about 20 minutes first. Picture perfect, huge, delicious cinnamon buns. I heart this recipe.

Lebanese Chicken and Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
Awesome, Awesome recipe! Didn't change anything except that I ran out of lemon juice so only used 1/4 cup (just the stuff in the bottle since I didn't have any real lemons). It was perfect for my family including a hubby who is not too fond on tangy/lemony stuff and three kids ages 1, 4 and 6. Tender, juicy chicken, delicious sauce, fork tender potatoes. I also made homemade naan which totally enhanced this meal. I have to say that I have also made this as written with 1 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice (NOT bottled) and have LOVED that was as well. But then again I love tangy, lemony stuff, but my hubby didn't like the version with a full cup. Going forward I will probably use 1/4 cup of the bottled juice which I think is always more concentrated in flavor anyways or 1/2 cup of the fresh squeezed to get a good lemon compromise for my family. Either way this recipe is a winner in my book.

Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
I used to eat these ALL the time as an after school snack when I was in Junior High to try to gain some weight (unfortunately after 3 kids I don't have that problem anymore). These are THE BEST. If you want to cut calories by eliminating the butter, you can always stick these in the oven on a piece of foil or baking sheet to catch all the creamy, yummy, oozing peanut butter from making a mess.

Clam Bake

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2009
I would give this four stars as written - it's as simple as can be for a no-fuss easy one-pot meal. For our personal preference, next time I will probably leave out the potatoes - with the corn and yummy seafood, no one in my family even touched the potatoes. Also, I will double the clams and mussels. I used seafood stock (all I had) and added a quarter of a lemon and a few cloves of garlic to the broth while cooking. I also cooked this a bit differently since I didn't want the seafood coming out tough or rubbery. I started with par-boiling my potatoes in salted water. Then I dumped out the water and added the corn to the potatoes and the broth and my additions of lemon and garlic. I cooked these for about 5 minutes. I added the clams in a single layer on top of the corn and potatoes and steamed for eight minutes. Pulled them out. Added the mussels in a single layer for 8 mintues. Pulled them out and added the shrimp for a few minutes until cooked through (maybe 5 minutes?). Then I put the clams and mussels back into the pot and served with crusty french bread and melted butter. The broth was fabulous and the seafood was just right (not tough and rubbery or shriveled). I will definitely make it again.

I make this all the time and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get rave reviews from everyone!! I use less cranberries than called for, omit the green peppers and toast my pecans. That being said, holy moly this is the most fabulous chicken salad recipe EVER!!!!!!!!! I usually let it meld overnight. It really doesn't get any better than this.

Vanilla Ice Cream V

Pretty Good stuff. Tasted very good but the texture was just a bit off for me (not smooth)but somehow that could have been my fault since I'm totally new at this homemade ice cream thing. I let the icecream ripen overnight in the freezer and even the next day it scooped out very easily.

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
More like a 3 1/2 as written for me. If you just love the taste of meat (like my hubby) you will probably like this as is. It just had a very basic meat taste to me and I like my stuff with more flavor so the second time I made this I added to the patties: 1/4 onion minced, 1 or 2 tablespoons A1 bold and spicy sauce, maybe 1/3 packet mushroom and onion gravy packet and salt and pepper to taste. I always cook a little tiny bit before cooking them all to make sure seasonings are perfect. I doubled the gravy and added about another 1/3 package of the onion and mushroom gravy packet once my gravy had thickened up and before I put the patties back in. I also added a bit garlic powder to the gravy. 5 stars and even my husband said it was delicious. Served over Mashed Potatoes.

Yummy - the kids and I really liked this. Usually I make with Tahini, but because I was out I tried this version. Added some lemon juice and extra garlic and reduced the cumin some.
