About this Cook
I'll be 50 next July and am 11 years into my second marriage, however there are days when I mess up on cooking something and I exclaim "I feel like a newly-wed!!" Especially on those recipes I have made lots of times before. My "new" husband likes different things than I am used to cooking. I'm starting a new cookbook just for what he likes.
My favorite things to cook
Chicken noodle soup (with my own home made egg noodles) ~ Chicken pot pie ~ Meatballs (beef) ~ Butternut squash pie ~ Thankgiving with all the "fix-in's" ~ pot roast with vegetables ~ beef stew
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving with stuffing, cranberry sauce w/ lettuce and cottage cheese, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes with gravy from drippings, home made hot rolls, sweet tea, pumpkin pie w/ whipped topping, pecan pie, mashed sweet potatoes w/ orange juice and marshmallows
My cooking triumphs
My favorite meal to serve to first time guest or family is my home-made chicken noodle soup with my favorite recipe for rich hot rolls. Always a big hit!!
My cooking tragedies
About 5 years ago on Thanksgiving morning as I was taking the turkey out of the oven (I was baking it in the roasting bag) and as I lifted it out of the oven the bag touched the top coil of the electric oven and "b-u-r-s-t" open and the fat drippings leaked out and ran into the oven and caught on fire in the bottom of the stove. This of course set me into a panic with smoke rolling and flames licking up and the smoke alarm going off (all of this going on while my husband was "sleeping in" and supposedly enjoying his holiday off) I wasn't mad about the fire or the smoke, etc. I was just so cotton picking mad because it made me feel like I had never cooked a turkey before. I've been cooking turkey for 30 some years and I really felt awful because I wanted everything to be just perfect...!!!
