I am a stout little German and I love to cook! I inheritted this love from my mother and my grandmother. They taught me that food is a love language and I love people! I am by no means a professional cook, it's just my favorite hobby.
My favorite things to cook
I am definately German to the core and love to cook with sauerkraut (I have been known to satisfy a craving by eating sauerkraut straight out of the can!) I also love Italian, Mexican and Asian cuisine and my husband got me interested in Indian curries!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Since I was old enough to hold a wooden spoon, I have baked and cooked in the kitchen with my mother and grandmother. Christmas is my favorite holiday since we get together and bake all sorts of goodies. I remember helping my grandmother make Pfeffernuesse (pepper nuts) by rolling out the dough into a long snake and she would cut it into pieces. I love to make cutout sugar cookies and frost them, date cookies, mandelschnitten, molasses cookies, kringla, lebkuchen and linzer cookies.
My cooking triumphs
I have recently tackled Indian cooking and am getting pretty dog gone good at Red Curry and Vindaloo! I'm also known for my "refrigerator recipes" that have no specific recipe, i just clean out my fridge into soup or casserole and it tastes fabulous!
My cooking tragedies
The first time my sister and I made Coq au Vin (Chicken with Wine) it took 2 hours and we almost started a fire with the brandy! My skills have improved somewhat since then. =) There was also the time I took my eyes off the meat loaf too long and the dog was the only one that go to enjoy it!! Lucky dog!
