About this Cook
Between work and school I don't have a lot of time to cook, but when I do have a chance I love to try new things. I'm actually a rather picky eater, I can't stand the texture of onions or coconut and mushrooms are disgusting to me. I eat very little red meat, mostly poultry and fish and am always looking for new ways to prepare them in order to mix things up.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta and soups, I love to bake pretty much anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On Christmas and Thanksgiving we always have candied yams, baked corn, peaches and orange juice, and homemade rolls. For Easter we have the same except instead of peaches we have a delicious dessert dubbed "orange jello stuff". A couple years ago I made a maple-pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving and now everyone insists I make one every year!
My cooking triumphs
My brother's wedding cake. It was alternating white and strawberry cake layers, and it was definitely an experience! Also, my first try at my grandmother's chicken corn rivel soup, it turned out wonderfully!
My cooking tragedies
A chocolate chip cake with a caramel filling and chocolate glaze. The cake crumbled apart, the caramel ended up as one giant lump, and the chocolate hardened almost immediately.
