About this Cook
I've been teaching myself to cook for 20 years now. I love it! I watch cooking shows, collect cookbooks and search all of the good food websites routinely. I try new wines all the time. I love to pair wine with food. I just started putting together all of my best my recipes for my 10 year old daughter - although I don't know what she will do with them - she is a very picky eater!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about everything - soups, stews, chili, stir fry, ethnic. I love to roast food in the oven. I'm not big on deep frying. I love the crock pot. I love preparing appetizers, salads and veggies. The last 3 or 4 years I finally started baking. I love it - I don't know what took me so long?
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't have any traditions yet. I'm starting them now!
My cooking triumphs
I can make soup out of anything and everything in the pantry.
My cooking tragedies
Quite often I begin a recipe and realize in mid-preparation that I ran out of an ingredient. This happens all too frequently. You would think I would learn to check first!!!

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili
Amazingly easy - has a bit of a kick to it. I made it (almost) true to the recipe 1st time around, as I always do. It would be very easy to make different variations. I am usually a "from scratch" cook, but I will use this shortcut recipe again!

Spinach and Carrot Quiche
I followed the recipe exactly, except I poured the entire contents into one deep dish pie crust (9 inch). It took an extra 5 minutes in the oven. It baked up beautifully! It was easy to make, and the carrots mixed in with the spinach gives this quiche stunning presentation. This is a great brunch or special occasion dish.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread
LOVE - LOVE - LOVE THIS RECIPE! I followed mom2sixgreatkids' modification. Then I split the batter between 2 larger loaf pans, and added dried cranberries & chocolate chips to one of the loaves. I left the other plain. They were both delicious! I will probably make this recipe at least half a dozen times throughout the holiday. Thank you!
