About this Cook
Single, working an 8 days on-6 days off shift, which in the freezing Canadian Winter when it is too cold to go outside can be really boring. My goal this winter is to finally start trying all the interesting recipes I've been saving! And finally learn to roast a chicken.
My favorite things to cook
Anything different and interesting, when the weather is cold and crummy I crave soups and stews. I'm trying to master cakes and decorating this year. I'm one of those people that is far too analytical to make things up as I go along - so I like to follow recipes to a "T" and then make changes I know I'll enjoy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's annual holiday traditions.... We occasionally stray from the norm, but pumpkin squares always show up at Thanksgiving, Sex in a Pan always shows up at Christmas. If something I'm cooking reminds me of her, it makes me enjoy the food just a little bit more.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering my much famous and requested Caramel Squares - they are my crowning achievement.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made Caramel Squares I accidentally put the base in a cookie sheet (that's what the recipe said!!!) and not in a 9x13 pan, I subsequently had a blonde moment and poured the caramel over top and it went everywhere - my Mom was so pissed. I quite often lose track of how many cups and teaspoons of something I've put in a mix - sometimes it works out okay - sometimes, not so much!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
The taste was really great - but there were FAR too many chocolate chips, made the dough hard to handle. Now, I'm not the most experienced cookie baker in the world, so I assume I've done something wrong, but the cookies didn't spread as much as I expected. Next time I would only use maybe 1 1/4 cup choco chips and I would press the coodies down a little to make them a little thinner. They actually ended up being about the same size and shape as hockey pucks! Thank goodness they weren't that hard or I would have never heard the end of it! Will try this one again!
