Creme Brulee

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
This is a great recipe but I must mention that it is imperative that you bake these in a water bath. My first time making these, I did not use a water bath and my custard curdled. The second I used the water bath and it was perfect. I only use brown sugar on top.

Buttermilk Pancakes II

I thought these were just ok, but hubbie seemed to think they were pretty tasty so I give this 4 stars. Not quite as fluffy as stated in the description.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2011
This pie is "slap yo' mama" good! All the hype is true. Best apple pie I ever tasted. EVER. I am just so upset that I didn't try this recipe sooner. I'm throwing out my other apple pie recipe immediately.

Caramel Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
Mannnnnnn oh man. I HATE how good these bars taste, mainly because I cannot seem to control how many I eat. I have a large 11 X 15 baking pan that I use to make these. I make 2.5 times the flour, sugar, oats, baking soda & butter. I make double the caramel sauce and eyeball the chocolate chips. I also use pecans instead of walnuts. Everyone loves these bars!!!

Best Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2010
This was great!! Upon the advice of other reviewers, I added a little milk and instead of using 2 small cans of cream of mushroom, I used one large 26 ounce can. I didn't use onions either; I opted to use onion powder instead. Didn't measure cheese or peas, I just added what I thought was sufficient. Also, I used crushed butter crackers for the topping. All my picky kids loved it. There wasn't any leftovers. Will make again very soon!!

Easy Shake and Bake Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2010
This was yummy! We used skinless, boneless chicken breasts and I didn't measure anything, I just added salt, pepper, sage, paprika, onion powder & garlic powder to taste. Ran out of butter so I just used margarine (didn't measure that either). It was great! The kids loved it and it was a nice variation from the regular fried chicken on the stovetop. Will make again and again. :-)

Overnight Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
This is the best coffee cake! I followed the recipe pretty closely except I only left it in the fridge about 7 hours or so and I added about a teaspoon of vanilla to the powdered sugar/milk topping. It is sooo good. Will be making again very soon.

These are great! I really like the addition of sour cream; it doesn't overpower like some of the other enchiladas recipes on this site. Will be making again soon! 5 stars

Pie Crust IV

FINALLY! A pie crust that is easy to work with and tastes great. This will be my go-to recipe for all my crusts. I was sure to use ice cold water and add just a bit at a time and stir afterwards. Came out great!

Cherry Pie III

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2009
Great recipe and easy, but like others, I found the filling to be a tad too sweet. My suggestion for others is to try it with a little less than one cup, maybe 3/4 cup and then increase it from there to your tastes. 1 1/2 cups sugar is just too much for most people. Other than that, perfect! Oh, and if you are like me and found your cherry filling to be a little drab looking, add a little red food coloring and you're good to go.

Alfredo Sauce

For some reason, I thought the recipe called for one whole garlic crushed. Even with all the extra garlic, it was still great and my kids devoured it. Next time, I will be sure to use only one clove though! ;-)

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
I can't say much that hasn't been said already. Just know that I have a house full of picky eaters and they ALL love love love this lasagna. Followed almost as written but used onion powder instead of onion and used only 1 tsp of salt. For personal preference, I only used about half of the ricotta. This will be my go-to lasagna recipe from now on!

Pretty good stuff! Used it with the red velvet cake recipe (by eleanor) on this site. Came out great and although it's not buttercream consistency, I was able to make a nice shell border on my cake and it cam out very pretty. Will use this again!

Scrumptious Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2009
So this is what REAL strawberry shortcake tastes like? This was just so delicious. I never knew making shortcake from scratch was so easy. The shortcakes were light and fluffy and had just the perfect texture. I skipped the cream of tartar and used 3 tsp of baking powder, as suggested by other reviewers. I added about 1/4 cup of sugar instead of 1/3 cup. I didn't have a pastry cutter on hand, so I just used a knife and my hands to make sure the texture was nice and crumbly. Rolled into 12 balls and smashed them down to 1/2 inch size then sprinkled with some sugar. 20 minutes in the oven was perfect for me. Be careful when slicing the shortcake, because its nice and crumbly and may fall apart easily if you aren't careful, but then again, its supposed to do that, its shortcake! I can't say enough great things about this recipe. It was awesome.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2009
This is a spectacular recipe and I will definitely be making again soon. I followed the recipe pretty closely with the following changes: 1) I cut the tortillas into wedges and sprayed both sides with butter. I then added them to a big baggie filled with my cinnamon-sugar mixture and just shook the bag until they were all coated. Made for a very easy cleanup. 2) I couldn't find any raspberries, so I just used more kiwi and raspberry preserves. 3) I used FIJI apples! I First sliced the apples into quarters and then dipped the apples in lemon juice before chopping up to prevent browning. 4) I didn't use the full amount of sugars suggested as my fruits were pretty sweet already, so I just sprinkled a bit of white and bit of brown sugar. I got rave reviews from my guests and they are looking forward to the next time I make this!

Baked Beans II

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
I will never use another baked beans recipe. I made this on Tuesday for a barbeque and everyone loved it! The only change I made was to use slightly less sugar and I also cooked the bacon about halfway before topping the beans with it. It was great and I will definitely make again soon. ETA: I have made these beans several times since my original review and these beans are consistently delicious! To those who have issues with this being runny, I always "drain" the liquid from my beans before adding the ingredients. Don't know if this helps or not, but my beans are never, ever runny. I guess it may depend on what brand of canned beans you use, but I always use the store brand from Walmart and they tend to have a bit of liquid in them, so I simply drain the liquid and continue.

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2009
This is excellent popcorn! Definitely a keeper. I made some tonight with my 8 year old son, and needless to say, all of my kids enjoyed it. We used 2 bags of popcorn and I found that to be just enough to use for this recipe. I also did not add salt because I thought it would be overkill with the popcorn being salted already. Other than that, we followed the recipe exactly. 5 stars!
