About this Cook
I've lived in two different areas of the U.S. and in southern Italy for 6 years - i've travelled extensively throughout western and eastern europe and have become passionate about "ethnic" and ethnic-inspired food. I love to cook and am in the process of gutting and upgrading our kitchen.

Lentil Soup with Lemon
Let me just say first that i realize this review isn't entirely fair... When i try a new recipe, i try to stay with how the author intended it to be - just for the first time and then i tweek it after. So, i stayed true to the recipe and it was good but i just couldn't get past the chicken broth (i'm a vegetarian but can on occassion deal with meat broth - not in this case, unfortunately). So, i decided to try again and use vegetable broth instead. Also, i tried a masala mix i had instead of the cumin and LOVED this! That's why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because, chicken broth aside, i much preferred it with the mixed spice blend than just the cumin. Overall, really wonderful and will be adding this to my list of favorites - my 3 year old even loved it!

Best Steak Marinade in Existence
My husband and some friends went crazy for this recipe! (i'm a vegetarian, so i didn't eat any steak but i can tell you that marinade smelled amazing) I did cut half the basil because i thought that 4 1/2 tbsp dried herbs was a little heavy and dried basil gets overpowering, in my opinion. Also, i was in a hurry, so i didn't blend it, i just whipped it in a bowl and then put it in a ziploc with the steak. I massaged the steak and flipped the bag over every 20-30 minutes and everyone said it turned out great. I'll definitely make this again!

Apple Cake and Butter Sauce
There's nothing amazing about this recipe, it's just a really good breakfast bread (like zucchini bread or banana bread). I like that it was a simple recipe so my daughter could help and cooking it in the pie pan was nice and easy, too. (not sure what's going on with the picture that goes with this recipe because clearly that's not the same shape) And we all loved the butter sauce but i agree with the others that it calls for way too much - i made a half-batch and i still had a lot left over.
