I am a 50 year old father of 2 teenage boys who are both "fine schmeckers", i.e. they like the good stuff. I make a lot of different dishes just to see how far they're willing to go. I don't mind spending $37 on a bottle of balsamic if that's what I need. I have traveled in Italy extensively with my wife and love the culture of food and dining they have. I have a huge garden in which I grow lots of tomatoes, chilis, tomatillas, herbs and other things I need for my cooking. I make my own hot suaces and chili mashes and horseradish.
My favorite things to cook
Southwestern style anything, but not "Tex-Mex".
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking seasonal family favorites based on what's fresh in the gardens. Everybody crowded around the table with good bread and wine. Catching the boys sampling the fare because they just can't wait.
My cooking triumphs
Winning the green chili cook-off at the Wheel Bar in Estes Park, CO and again at the Fall Festival in Lyons, CO.
Also, perfecting my cinnamon crusted grilled salmon fillet with green chile recipe.
Discovering bison roasted with green chili compote.
My cooking tragedies
Opening a bottle of Japanese fish sauce, I had to burn the house down to get rid of the smell. (Just kidding)
