About this Cook
Well since I'm a military wife I've had the opportunity to see new places and try new foods. We're currently in Okinawa, Japan. I've got to try a few things, some great and some not so great. I do miss a few things from the states, REAL Mexican food and Italian.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, for whatever reason i'm pretty dang good at it too. The slow cooker is another one of my faves. I'm not so good at grilling, my husband deals with that one.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking is in my family, my grandmother was a chef and owned a few restaurants.I remember hanging out with grandma eating her apple pie at one of her diners when I was a wee one. Growing up we always sat at the table and had good homemade dinners, I never had hamburger helper until I was a teen. I'm slowly trying to make some of my own traditions, like Christmas eve we make our own pizzas for dinner.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that comes out good is a triumph, I would have to say my pumpkin cheesecake. I get requests for it now, ha ha. Oh and candies, those are always a hit or miss with me. So when they come out I feel like I won. ha ha.
My cooking tragedies
Grilling, they always come out WELL done!!! Someday I'll get there.

Joy's Prizewinning Trifle
This was my first time making a trifle, lets just say it was easier than it looked. I used french vanilla (prepared), could not find the cheesecake at my grocery store (but would like to try). I also allowed my bananas to soak in the pineapple juice, and it really helped prevent browning. At the book club meeting everyone loved it and of course wanted the recipe. I will definitely make this again. Thanks for sharing.
