Hi, my name is Jo. I had been cooking for a few years, but didn't have any interest in "real" food until I started dating my now husband. On one of our first dates he took me to an Indian restaurant... And we've been cooking together ever since.
My favorite things to cook
Indian food, thanks to my husband. I really enjoy Mexican food, but it seems that true South American recipes are hard to come by... So I've mainly been sticking with Indian. (Update:) Hubby and I recently moved back down south. We were both born in the south, and moved north in our pre-teens. So, even though the south doesn't exactly feel like "home", it has inspired both of us to get in touch with our southern culinary roots. And it's been fun! Sun tea, anyone?
My favorite family cooking traditions
I think our family "traditions" are mostly just cooking together and making/trying/sharing anything new. Mostly with new dishes, I'll do all the prep work and my Hubby will do the seasoning. (Update:) Hubby is working, I stay home and supposedly take care of the house, the baby, and the cooking.. (the baby part is easy right now, all I have to do is eat! (and take my vitamins) It's exciting to plan "fancy" meals for hubby to come home to... and he never complains, which is a HUGE blessing...
My cooking triumphs
My Hubby and I made Indian cheese(Paneer). We/he made Ginger Beer. Very yummy! Although the last time we made it, it exploded. Haven't make it since.. (Update:) Making tacos de lengua, that everyone liked, they just didn't know what it was! Just having my husband come home and tell me what a blessing I am to him, (with his mouth full of food)is probably one of the most wonderful feelings in the world... I don't know if it could be considered a cooking triumph... but it sure does make me want to have dinner ready for him.
My cooking tragedies
Roasted garlic cauliflower.... It somehow transformed into a few black mushy crumbs.... Oops... (Update:) Since becoming pregnant, my nose and taste buds have revolted and some new completely bi-polar ones have taken their place. Needless to say, for most of my pregnancy, everything has seemed like a cooking tragedy... (perhaps why hubby doesn't complain...?)
