Sugar Cookie Glaze

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
I have been using "sugar cookie icing" recipe on this site, and liked it just fine, but decided to try this one out of curiosity. Taste the same...only difference I noticed is this glaze sets up faster and is a little thicker (not so runny like). I think I will continue to use this recipe due to it setting faster. Thanks!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I guess I like my potatoes with more flavor. I understand the need for a mellow comfort food at times, but these were boring and bland. I was very disappointed with all the great reviews and wanted to say they tasted great...Sorry!

Awesome and Easy Creamy Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
All 4 of my picky kids liked this recipe, so it gets 4 stats. I thought it was okay. Taste like mushy cornbread to me. I added garlic powder and chopped onion, but it was still a little bland. I also used 1 3/4 cup frozen corn instead of the canned whole corn. The addition of meat, maybe cheese or other seasoning would improve this recipe, and easily make it into a main dish. Tested out for a Thanksgiving side, but I will not use it...too similar to stuffing or cornbread dressing. Think I will go with "Slow Cooker Creamed Corn" for a side dish...try it out if you like cream cheese!

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I found my pie cooked very quickly, so beware and check often. This caused the top to over-brown and crack on top. It was messy to cut. I used a 9in deep dish crust and it was not enough to fill it properly...thankfully this was just a test run. The pie does not have the same texture as a regular pecan pie, it loses some of the shiny gelatin consistency, but the flavor is that of a regular pecan pie. I will stick to corn syrup recipes and keep this for back-up when I'm out of corn syrup. I give it 4 stars ONLY because it is a working emergency substitute for corn syrup.

Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
I wanted to save time and use less dishes, so I put all the ingredients into the crock pot instead of heating them separately on the stove. I cooked the corn on high for about 2 hrs before checking. At first I was worried, because the cream cheese was still in chunks. I gave it a good stir and let it cook for another 15 min, and the cheese blended in perfectly. I added 1 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp pepper & used a 1/3 less fat cream cheese. I LOVED the taste, but my 4 kids did not! It is very rich with all the butter & cream cheese. UPDATE: I made this again on the stove top and used 1/2 less cream cheese and added about 1/4 cup whipping cream - didn't measure just eye-balled amounts. Result was very smooth & creamy corn with less of a cream cheese flavor. My kids liked it better this time.

Golden Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
I have been making this dish for past 5 yrs from a Taste of Home magazine. Everyone loves it, especially with ham! The sauce has a wonderful rich flavor...I'm a fan of sour cream. The potatoes are not floating in sauce, so make extra if you like yours on the creamy side. I cut down on the butter and occasionally skip on making the topping with equally good results. TIP - Make sure your potatoes are completely thawed and bake for the full hour or your potatoes will not cook thoroughly.

Soft Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
WoW! My perfect sugar cookie is one that is thick and soft, and good with or without icing. I have searched this web-site for "my" perfect sugar cookie and I believe I found it. I originally tried "Best Rolled Sugar Cookies" and found they were crunchy even when rolled thick and under cooked. Then I tried "Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies" they were soft with a hint of cream cheese flavor and sometimes got sticky when rolling...closer to what I was looking for, but not your regular sugar cookie. I decided to try these today and used 1/2 cup butter & 1/2 cup margarine everything else the same. Cooled for 3 hrs, rolled out w/flour perfectly. Mine were done in 8 min w/no browning around edges. They stay very light colored, firm enough to decorate and handle, but soft and thick..yummm! I ate w/o icing and they were awesome, not to sweet like store bought sugar cookie dough, although they would be just as yummy with icing. Thanks Georgie! Will definitely make this holiday season and ice with "Sugar Cookie Icing"!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
I have tried several Banana bread/muffin recipes on this site and ALWAYS find myself coming back to this one. I usually make 18 muffins bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Test w/toothpick to check if they done, should come out mostly clean. I use 1 cup wheat & 1 cup white fl and use 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick) and 1/2 cup of applesauce to make them healthier. But, they are wonderful as is! I add some pecans and mini semi-sweet choc chips (3/4 cup or less). They are small and spread through the mixture just right, so every bite has a little bit of chocolate. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!

Yellow Squash Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
I absolutely love squash and this recipe is AWESOME! I especially love any recipe that taste good and can be made healthy. Most squash casseroles call for too much butter and cheese...can't keep my weight in-check with those. I followed directions and will make over and over and over again! Thanks so much!!

Key Lime Pie - Low Carb Version

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
I made this for my mother who is on a low-carb diet and loves Key Lime pie. I took others suggestions and omitted 1 pkt of splenda in the crust. The pie tasted like a lime cheesecake to me. My mother said it was not sweet enough for her, which surprised me after everyone said it was too sweet! She also mentioned it a little too thick, but overall a good substitution for those who are craving a Key Lime pie and can't have the carbs. It only made enough crust to cover the bottom of my pie plate and not the sides. Needs some whipped topping on top. I feel other jello flavors would taste just as nice.

Cream Cheese Bars I

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
EXTREMELY easy to make, but are in need of modifications. I made according to recipe...except for replacing 1/2 cup powder sugar (ran out) with brown sugar. I used a yellow cake mix. Based on the ingredients in recipe I give it 3 stars. I agree with other reviews...these are WAY to sweet and bland. I couldn't even really taste much of anything BUT sugar. Definitely take other suggestions and cut out 1 cup sugar or increase cream cheese. Bottom crust is nice, similar to a sugar cookie, buttery & chewy. I will use crust for other deserts. I refrigerated overnight and had no problem cutting. I thought they were plain & boring looking, so I put chocolate on top of a few to liven up the appearance. Baked according to temp and time suggested with no problems. You can tell they are done when the top layer doesn't jiggle.

Lentil Soup III

So very simple and satisfying! Thank you for this recipe. My kids don't care for lentils, but were running to the kitchen when they smelt this cooking. I added ham to my soup for extra flavor and all my kids tried a bowl.

Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2009
I love this recipe! Sweet, creamy rice that does not take much effort. My 4 kids could not get enough! I ran out of sugar when making my second time, so I used sweetened condensed milk in substitution of sugar and reduced amount of milk called for. Turned out great! Thanks!

Lasagna Alfredo Roll Ups

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
These were a nice meatless change from our normal supper. I took the suggestion of others and put spaghetti sauce on the bottom, then the rolls, cheese and Alfredo sauce. I used an Alfredo recipe of this site that was delicious and made all the difference...can't stand store bought. My kids didn't really like this, but all the adults did. Thanks for the keeper!

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
Oh my gosh! I absolutely loved this and so did my 4 kids. I did take the suggestion of others and used only half the amount of butter, next time I will use even less. I didn't have curry, so I used a near substitution of a mixture of spices. This is a keeper, Thanks!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
I added toffee chips to the batter and my kids just loved them. I felt they were to oily and not as soft as I like. First batch turned out crispy, so on the rest I turned down the heat and only kept in the oven 7 minutes. They were soft, but almost seemed uncooked to get that way. This recipe did make a bunch of cookies, which is good for me with having 4 kids to feed. Probably won't make again unless I take omit some butter and add applesauce.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2009
I would give this 5 stars in taste, but overall 4 stars for all the fat. So rich and fatty it gave me a slight tummy ache :o( If I make it again this way I will only use half the amount of butter and fat free cream cheese. I'm sure that will be plenty and hopefully won't change the flavor much.

Almost No Fat Banana Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
I could definitely tell it was missing the fat and so could my kids...they wouldn't eat it after a sample taste, but I still liked it well enough to bake again for myself. The bread was a little rubbery...even though I made sure not to over stir and use very ripe bananas.
