About this Cook
Growing up my family owned a restaurant and later my mother was a self employed baker, so I decided to master cooking as my mother had about 10 yrs. ago, just hasn't happened yet! I have 7 brothers & sisters with children of their own and 4 children myself and we all love to eat! Each family member has their specialties and I'm always on the look for something new and different.
My favorite things to cook
I really love to bake sweets, like cookies, bars, pies, and cheese cakes! I love meals that you can prepare, freeze, then pop in the oven when in a hurry. I guess traditional American food is what I cook most, but Chinese Food is my favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
That would be something my dad came up with at out restaurant, called cheaters. Dough, sausage, and cheese put together just the right way! I haven't came across them anywhere else!
My cooking triumphs
I've managed to make an awesome cheesecake and some great side dishes that are staples during the holidays! I also do really well making cookies.
My cooking tragedies
Um...I once used "cool whip" or whipped cream instead of heavy whipping cream in a recipe for Thanksgiving years ago, but everyone was nice and ate the melting lopsided cake anyways.

Golden Au Gratin Potatoes
I have been making this dish for past 5 yrs from a Taste of Home magazine. Everyone loves it, especially with ham! The sauce has a wonderful rich flavor...I'm a fan of sour cream. The potatoes are not floating in sauce, so make extra if you like yours on the creamy side. I cut down on the butter and occasionally skip on making the topping with equally good results. TIP - Make sure your potatoes are completely thawed and bake for the full hour or your potatoes will not cook thoroughly.

Soft Christmas Cookies
WoW! My perfect sugar cookie is one that is thick and soft, and good with or without icing. I have searched this web-site for "my" perfect sugar cookie and I believe I found it. I originally tried "Best Rolled Sugar Cookies" and found they were crunchy even when rolled thick and under cooked. Then I tried "Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies" they were soft with a hint of cream cheese flavor and sometimes got sticky when rolling...closer to what I was looking for, but not your regular sugar cookie. I decided to try these today and used 1/2 cup butter & 1/2 cup margarine everything else the same. Cooled for 3 hrs, rolled out w/flour perfectly. Mine were done in 8 min w/no browning around edges. They stay very light colored, firm enough to decorate and handle, but soft and thick..yummm! I ate w/o icing and they were awesome, not to sweet like store bought sugar cookie dough, although they would be just as yummy with icing. Thanks Georgie! Will definitely make this holiday season and ice with "Sugar Cookie Icing"!

Banana Banana Bread
I have tried several Banana bread/muffin recipes on this site and ALWAYS find myself coming back to this one. I usually make 18 muffins bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Test w/toothpick to check if they done, should come out mostly clean. I use 1 cup wheat & 1 cup white fl and use 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick) and 1/2 cup of applesauce to make them healthier. But, they are wonderful as is! I add some pecans and mini semi-sweet choc chips (3/4 cup or less). They are small and spread through the mixture just right, so every bite has a little bit of chocolate. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!
