I am a 53 year old caucasian female who suffered a stroke at the age of 50 while undergoing brain surgery to correct a brain disease called Trigeminal Neuralgia. The nickname of this disease is the "suicide disease", because of the intense pain. The stroke affected the left side of my body. I don't have control over my left extremities and my speech is slurred. I have always loved cooking. I think I was about 13 when I began cooking. I have become rather efficient at typing with one hand. I have one child (daughter), son-in-law, 2 grandchildren, Mother, 2 sisters and 2 brothers, 2 brother-in-laws and lots of neices and nephews. Aunt Paula has got a good name when it comes to cooking. I prefer to cook from scratch.
My favorite things to cook
Sauces, Soups, Vegetables, Friying and Grilling Beef and Poultry
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am the organizer in the family. I love to plan all our get togethers. We do the usual traditional get togethers, holidays, etc.
My cooking triumphs
Aunt Paula's Spaghetti.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I cooked was horrible from the get go. Mother had given me instructions on starting dinner. Everything was going good until I dropped the big can of grease in the pot of vegetables that were cooking. Food went everywhere. Meanwhile my brother and sister got into an argument and he dunked her head into the muggy dishwater, then proceeded to mop the floor with her hair. She had hair to her waist. I will never forget this event. My cooking disaster and the brotherly love going on, all in this tiny kitchen.
