About this Cook
I am a happily married mother of two, Frieda, just married, and Micah, a freshman in college. My husband David is in a graduate architecture program. I teach elementary school music in a Milwaukee charter school and I love my 380 K4-8th grade kids. Dave and I enjoy traveling and have enjoyed B&Bs across the country. My laptop is usually playing classical music as I search for new recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Dinner! I enjoy creating unique menus and inviting family and friends to try new things. My soups are well-known for being inventive and delicious! I revel in the Christmas season, usually baking more than a dozen kinds of cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom knew how to stretch her dollars, making economical meals that tasted great. I don't have to scrimp the way she did, but I enjoy creating tasty things. Our heritage is German, and I love to honor the traditions of Germany.
My cooking triumphs
Many, many wonderful gatherings of family and friends enjoying crown roasts, stuffed flank steak, oyster stew.
My cooking tragedies
The worst thing I ever made was a risotto with sun-dried tomatoes. It just didn't work for me and had an odd taste and strange consistency.

The Best Thai Coconut Soup
I've made this several times, following the recipe exactly. When I made it today, I used Lite coconut milk, just to cut down on the fat a bit. We were not disappointed. The flavor was excellent, and the slightly thinner broth still packed a solid flavor punch! This is one of our favorite soups.

Kelsey's Favorite Stuffed Green Peppers
We really enjoyed these peppers. The boiling step left the peppers tender and flavorful. Thanks for a keeper!

Wilted Spinach with Cherries and Goat Cheese
This was quite an elegant, sophisticated recipe with an fabulous blend of flavors and textures. It came together quickly while my tenderloin rested. I followed the recipe exactly and probably won't change much next time. I'm thinking of adding pinenuts just for fun!
