Graham Cracker Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
Great go-to recipe. thanks! Just a suggestion to try: I mixed all ingredients together then refrigerated for about 20 minutes, and that made it easier to handle the crust and keep it "up" along the sides neatly

LuvAnn's Guacamole

Awesome! Halved the recipe to use in a small 7-layer dip. Only complaint was DH whining, "Did you have to use ALL the guacamole in the dip?" Had to make another batch just for him once the rest of the avacados were ripe. Thanks LuvAnn!!

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
DH loved this (me too)! I also used LuvAnn's Guacamole recipe as a layer, didn't have canned black olives. Also used Ducal brand refried black beans. Sinful, but Oh So Smoooooth! i pick up a couple of cans when visit the Latino market.

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
Great basic recipe! Terrific as is, or as a starter for all kinds of little tweaks. Reviews by others are extremely helpful. I used basmati rice, rinsed well to remove starch, browned it in olive oil, used chicken broth instead of water, Rotel tomatoes, minced garlic. Have once tried putting in some black beans toward the end of cooking. It's great to have something different to serve with enchiladas, or with many other wonderful S.Western/Mexican recipes on this site.

Chunky Crawfish Spread

terrific! Such a good way to use up the extra crawfish. Makes good little hor-deurves, roll up in puff pastry or phyllo and bake for a few minutes. Delish! Thanks for this one!

Triple Cheese Spread

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2007
Pretty awesome stuff! Only change was sour cream for the mayo. made a dip, also used it to make little "fluffy pillows" placed Tbsp. of it, spaced evenly, on phyllo dough, rolled it up, keeping each part separate, and froze them. Call them "fluffy cheese pillows" just brush lightly with butter and bake about 20 mins on 350-400F

German Zwiebelkuchen (Onion Pie)

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2007
Thanks for the nutmeg suggestions Lucy7. I'll try that. Though I'm German thru & thru (mostly), I just don't really like caraway seeds. And I didn't realize Germans used nutmeg as one would pepper. Love to learn new things!

Diane's Colcannon

Absolutely delish! Total surprise to me. Can't wait til hubby gets home to try it because he is a true mashed potato lover. And I've always "smothered" my cabbage (ham seasoning, onions, salt pepper & cabbage), so this was similar. Together they're wonderful.

Lemon Custard Filling

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2005
I've made this stuff so many times, it's a hit with my patients. I'm a nurse working with severely depressed geriatric patients in a community mental health clinic, and I offer them choices of cakes for me to bake for their birthdays. This is a top favorite. Yeah, kinda thick, kinda cornstarchy, but as some leave and others take their place, the word gets around that, "...if it's your birthday, ask for her lemon cake!"

Pizza Dough II

Would have given this 5 stars if I were'not so exhausted from literally wrestling this dough into submission. My fault, should have read the little tutorial here about HOW to actually do it. No matter how much flour, dough sticks here, dough sticks there...Came out great eventually!

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2004
I've made this bread 2-3 times per week for the past 4 weeks and it'just keeps gettin better! I've subbed molasses for half the honey and it's a nice rich flavor. So far, I''ve also added sesame, sunflower, & flax seeds as well as quinoa to total approx 1/2 cup add-ins. My husband can't get enough. I do it in the bread machine and do the last rising in the pans in the microwave, sitting with a pot of steaming water then bake. It's so much I usually make a 1/2 batch to make two loaves. Thank you so much! I'm finally getting my hubby to eat healthy!

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2003
Pretty good, everyone at work loved it. Cake reminded me of angelfood cake. Next time would stir fresh blueberries in with mix rather than layer, made the middle kinda mushy. Used a bundt pan, but makes it impossible to get topping ON the top.

Fantastic! Even my very picky daughter ate this. I added some olives (Green & Kalamata), after I pitted them, and made it into olive bread. Everyone at work thought I had been to the bakery.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2003
I've already rated this recipe a while back, am blown away that it's got over 3,000 reviews! Deserves every one of them. My daughter started college in N.Y. this year, came home for X-mas wanting "Mom's Roast." Yes, it brought an 18 yr. old girl from N.Y., with her friends, all asking for this roast instead of turkey!!!! Can't thank you enough for this recipe!!

The PERFECT chocolate cheesecake!! Made this along with another of the recipes here, and this one was definitely the favorite. Topped with a chocolate ganache instead of sour cream. Nothing less than divine!!!

Chocolate Cheesecake II

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2002
Excellent cheesecake but the topping was too heavy. The next time, I made small cakes using foil cupcake cups and made a chocolate ganache using one ounce semi-sweet choc. to each oz. of heavy cream. Heat cream to just boiling, pour over chocolate til melted, let cool somewhat then pour over individual cheesecakes. Ganache will firm in fridge. Topped each one with strawberry half=dipped in chocolate. Big hit!

Ham and Cheese Quiche

Terrific! Ve-e-ery rich! I used frozen chopped spinach (drain very well) and fresh mushrooms, and chopped up thinly sliced deli ham instead of canned. Also added green onions which gave it a little extra color. Wonderful!!

Bud's Potato Salad

Excellent recipe, never would have believed it with these unusual ingredients, and I was never a big potato salad fan...'til now. Added green onions, parsley, little cilantro for color, little less mayo & sugar, & added a little red pepper, as well. Fantastic!!
