Spiced Slow Cooker Applesauce

Did this with 4 large granny smith and 4 large Fuji apples and cut back a little on the brown sugar (NOW WHITE!) for a more natural flavor. LOVE IT WILL MAKE IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!

Sour Cream Muffins

These were ok... I used homemade applesauce (the slow cooked one from this site) and frozen blueberries. Did everything as directed but kinda ended up with a mess- they fall apart in the middle and are stuck to the paper! I might try these again with some changes but as is this recipe wasn't spectacular, just ok.

Slow Cooker Western Omelet

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2009
Am trying this next week. So I will update this. I just wanted to add a note that for our hash browns, we don't use the frozen. We put the real potatoes quartered with the bell peppers that are asked for in a blender, fill with water run blender a few times until you have a choppy consistency you like then pour through a colinder. The water keeps the starch from looking burnt and it makes a very colorful presentation. Also the uniformity in pieces size helps it cook better. I will update after we cook this and tell how it went! ;)

OK, we ate this yesterday, YUM! I WILL double or even triple the veggies next time though, it was 9/10s meat! LOL it seemed to be missing a tad flavor, next time i will double w. sauce too and add perhaps a T of red wine... smells great while cooking. wanted to note, i too carmelized one onion and two garlic cloves, then added boiling water and beef stock. then poured into crock on top of meat with flour toss and veggies chopped. also added a packet of onion soup mix to the flour mix.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
OH MY GOSH DOES THIS SMELL GOOD TO COME HOME TO!!!! I could smell it outside my house. This is an awesome recipe because you play with it in so many ways. If you like this with homemade noodles or rice go for it. I used an onion soup packet instead of the dressing mix. You can add any veggies you would find ina pot pie like carrots, potatoes, etc than use krusteaz for a crust or pillsbury biscuits on top for chicken and dumplings... the list goes on and on. the idea of cooking the chicken alone for a roasted flavor is incredible and I will be doing this a LOT. THANKS FOR THE RECIPE!!!

One Pot Pinto Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
Ok so I had made a pumpkin soup a few days ago that had lots of leftovers. So I used that as a base for this. I poured in probably 1-2c pumpkin puree and 7 c water with only 2 packets of condensed chicken broth. Kept adding water as needed. Came out EXCELLENT! Also carmelized the onions and garlic before adding to the pot. My kids can't stand to know they're eating them so this helps them blend in. Very good and very healthy. I intend on playing with this one a LOT!

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
These seemedjust a little dry. I only put in 1/2 c brown sugar instead of the 1 c. white sugar. Came out really great! Everybody loved them. Also to make them a little bit healthier try using a different oil. I made these with grapeseed oil but next time I may try coconut oil. YUM!

Baked Applesauce

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
Kids had so much fun with this one! I think the flavor was much better than a traditional boiled recipe. The flavor was intense! I would cut back on the sugar, it definently didn't need as much. We cut our apples in rings using a corer + knife. Will be making this again and again! Try using it as a desert filling or in pie or as we did with a crumb topping, vanilla ice cream, and caramel sauce!

I LOVE hummus so this was great to try. I did not have Tahini (good luck finding it here) but did everything else and even my children love to eat this. So yummy and so healthy, an absolute favorite. Great with Norweigen Flat Bread. And filling too!

YUM!!! I follow this recipe exactly but cook like pancakes on a griddle just because it's faster. They are crunchy outside and a little more like gyro/pita bread on the inside. Perfect for my Hummus!!! Made several times over, perfect every time. THANKS FOR A GREAT RECIPE!!!

This was ok, the kids didn't appreciate it much though. Seemed too sweet, and I left out the sugar! Would try again, maybe with more pumpkin and more seasoning.

Cranberry Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2006
These are going to be part of our traditional Christmas from now on! The kids LOVED them. I used premade meatballs as a short cut. I boiled the meatballs and simmered the sauce separately. Then I put them together in a large pot to keep warm while waiting for other things to finish. Came out FANTASTIC! I laid them out on a platter with cocktail sticks to pick them up and the kids ate them all before the adults even got in the room.

Jenn's Out Of This World Spaghetti and Meatballs

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2006
I used premade meatballs so that made the recipe easier, I'm sure it also changed the taste. We didn't have any paste so I used two cans of tomato sauce, one blended with cornstarch to try to thicken it up. Also used very little, maybe an 8th of a cup of sugar. Oh, and I sautee'd the garlic and a can of mushrooms (no onions, allergic) before putting it into my slow cooker and putting the other ingredients on top... Is it still the same recipe? LOL No other changes. Loved this, I will definently be making this again.

Icy Blender Lemonade

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2006
I made a few changes to this. I zested the peel of the lemon first. Then I took the rest of the peel off. I used the lemon and the zest in the blender. It helped with the lemon taste people were saying it didn't have enough of. I didn't have white sugar, instead I used Turbinado (natural grain) sugar and only 1/4c. It didn't taste quite right but I found you can make this superb just by adding some frozen strawberries. It doesn't make it thick if you blend it a little at a time (if you put in a huge chunks it turns into a smoothie, which is also good!). It tastes just like the "strawberry lemonade" you'd get at a restaraunt. MMmmmmmm!

Hush Puppies II

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
This was very good, even my children LOVED them. I did not have "self rising" anything so I used 1c flour 1 c cornmeal + 2 t. baking powder to cover that. Now that I think about it I could have used something like Krusteaz or Bisquick, but I really enjoyed the cornbreadish taste/feel so I would still use the cornmeal. I also added a little bit of Turbinado (natural grain)sugar, maybe a T. I've never fried before, this was my first go and it was GREAT! I'd say the secret is to actually wait the 10 minutes they suggest, before that it was way too runny. It thickened up perfect though. This recipe made 29 "pups". (Boy they went fast!) GOOD LUCK!

Bread Machine Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2006
This is one of the best recipes for the bread machine I have. I do things slightly differently. I use olive oil instead of butter, fresh oregano from my garden chopped instead of parsley, 2 t. garlic cloves crushed instead of powder, and splenda instead of sugar. I put almost everything in the warm water first than the flour than the oregano and yeast go on top. The taste with these changes is excellant. (I tried it to the letter first and didn't like it.) If you find the bread doesn't raise very much just use the "scale this recipe" to adjust it. I find that 16-18 servings uses my 2lb. machine to capacity better than leaving it at 12 (the original setting on the recipe.) Good luck! ~jllebow

Quick Creamy Potato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2006
This was very nice. I advise you to use Cream of Chicken and NOT cream of mushroom. I tried it and it's not nearly as good. So try not to substitute if you don't have to. I didn't add onions, I don't like them. So I boiled the potatoes by themselves and drained them afterwards. It considerably cut down on the amount of liquid. It came out perfect and was eaten up lickety-split. My family really enjoyed this.

Beef and Rice Medley

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2005
I loved this! I found it to be creamy and comforting. I did a few things differently. I used brown rice. So I cooked it by itself (1c. nishiki brown rice + 2 1/2 c water) for 30 minutes. Than I put it with the meat for 15 minutes together. By then it was more than ready for the tomatoes. I used one 10 oz. can of diced tomatoes and green chillis. This took care of any blandness others may have found. I used one 8 oz. block of monterey jack cheese that I shredded. I mixed it in a little while it was melting so it made it really creamy. This was EXCELLANT! I love it! The only problem I have is that the kids (5,4,2) didn't like it but the baby (1) did. Go figure. If my husband were here it would be gone. This made more than enough for a family of six.
