About this Cook
I have learned a lot from my mother and grandmother, they had me in the kitchen around the age of 2 doing little things for them as I watched them work their magic. So naturally when my children came along I did the same thing for them. They are also great cooks. I love to spend time with my granddaughter she is only 3 months old and I can't wait to get her in the kitchen with me. I also enjoy crafting, I have learned how to make many great things with crafting its just like cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make good ole southern foods, such as pinto beans, greens, cornbread. I also like to bake and experiment with chicken. I REALLY enjoy searching for and making recipes from different cultures. We get such enjoyment trying these recipes and experiencing just a small portion of that culture.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I for the holidays I always get up earlier and make a new breakfast dish, something we never have had. Then I will begin to make our dinner. I like to have music playing such as Christmas music when it is Christmas time. For Thanksgiving we play American Indian music. For Thanksgiving this past 2 years I have gotten a white cloth table runner and before dinner is served I ask everyone to write on the runner what they are thankful for and to sign their name. Also included on the runner is the menu for that year and any special recipes that were used.
My cooking tragedies
I can say honestly that the Chicken and Dumplings is the only oops I can think of. I made this for the first time when I was 16 and proudly served it to my family and they all looked at me like I was nuts so I asked my mom what was wrong and she told me that I was supposed to take the chicken off of the bone. OOPS. Needless to say I have never been able to live that one down. But because of that I now do a lot of research on a recipe before I begin making it. I have made plenty of recipes that didn't turn out but that was due to the kind of recipe nothing that I screwed up.

Pumpkin Turkey Chili
I love pumpkin but I needed a different way of using it besides making pies. I came across this recipe and thought how strange to use pumpkin in chili but what the heck I will try it. I read the reviews and took the advice and tweak it by adding more of spices and the black beans and corn. It turned out great!! My boyfriend and brother loved it. I am making it again today to take for a potluck I will let you know what everyone thinks. Thanks for a great recipe

Banana Banana Bread
OMG! OMG! THIS IS THE BEST BANANA BREAD I HAVE EVER HAD! I was unable to sleep last night so I got up at 3:30 am & decided to make this banana bread. It's been on my mind for a few days now. I read the reviews & made some of my own adjustments which were; I added 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/8 tsp allspice and 1 tsp vanilla. Other than these additions I followed the recipe to the tee. Also from the reviews I thought that the bread would be very dense, & the banana flavoring to over powering however, mine came out light and fluffy & the flavoring was just PERFECT! I was very careful not to over mix, make sure you blend just til the batter is moist. Now I am headed back to the kitchen to make more but I am going to make them into muffins for our family outing tonight. We are going to a Chicago Bears football game! (my first time) This day has started out GREAT with this recipe. Thanks for sharing!

Cappuccino in a Jar
My daughter and I love to make this for gifts. I like to use Splenda instead of sugar and I use only a 1/4 cup of the Splenda. We also like to use different flavors of the non-dairy creamer like french vanilla but any kind is great. We will find out what flavor everyone likes and custom make it for each person. Everyone that has gotten one loves them and has asked for more jars through out the year. Thanks Cindy
