About this Cook
I love to eat more than cook. Since I can't go out to nice restaurants every day, I resort to cooking at home. I'm not a big cook, but when I find recipes I love I have to share them. Food makes me happy.
My favorite things to cook
Simple dishes with few ingredients that give lots of flavor.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Portuguese food!!! Especially when visiting relatives in Portugal.
My cooking triumphs
Making meals that my finicky 4 year old daughter loves is a big challenge. Anytime I succeed at that, nothing makes me happier.

Roquefort Pear Salad
Excellent salad!!! One thing I did differently. I used maple syrup instead of sugar and it worked great. Also, I didn't find that the avocado added anything to the salad. I think it's safe to use blue cheese or Stillton if you can't find Roquefort.

Saffron Rice
This was not that much of an effort. It's how you make good rice. Basmati is the way to go. Next time I think I'll make it with some slivered almonds and either dried cranberries or currants. My rice took about 20 minutes, not 40...so pay attention while it's cooking.

Rogan Josh, Lamb Shanks
What a disappointment!!! Not even close to being an "Indian" dish. Turned into a big pot of grease. I can't believe the reviews. The flavors weren't enough for this much lamb. Also, why use canned carrots and potatoes?
