About this Cook
I hove loved to cook since I was a child. My father was a chef and he let me help in the kitchen. Now that it is just my husband and I at home I still enjoy preparing meals and entertaing friends and family.
My favorite things to cook
I am known as the "Pie Baker" to my friends. I also like to bake bread, muffins. Guess it's dificult to identify my favorite things to cook as I seem to enjoy most all.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family remembers my goulash (not my favorite to eat) as being a family favorite. Also they often ask for my meatloaf. Grown kids and grandchildren aren't much on sweets to they do not ask for my pies :)
My cooking triumphs
I am of Scandanavian decent and love making Kranse Kage which is a almond like cake that is baked in rings and stacked. I made two for one daughters wedding and have made several for gifts.
My cooking tragedies
My first pie crust - tried when I was first married 49 yrs. ago. Also forgot to put yeast in my first bread try.

Ham, Potato, and Cheese Soup
I cut the recipe to 4 servings. Had a ham shank bone left from Easter so I simmerd it in Chicken broth for an hour - then added the potatoes and onion and a couple stalks of celery. The soup very tasty. Served it with muffins and a salad.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake I
This cake turned out perfect. I, with the help of All Recipes conversion, halfed the recipe and used a 9x9 cake pan. As I live at altitude I made the corrections, less sugar, less baking powder & soda and more liquid. I also subtituded boiling coffee for the water. I had some concern as the batter was very thin but it it baked perfectally. I frosted the cake with a chocolate butter frosting.

Carrot Souffle
this is a family favorite. I made it just as the recipe suggested. I am going to try brown sugar next time.
