About this Cook
I have been cooking since my mother to work full time when I was around 10. My sister and I split the meals during the week. We had always been involved in the kitchen though. Even earlier than that. These days I work full time and cook almost everynight. On the weekends I like to do something special as we usually have company. Now I love to cook and to try new recipes. I love cookbooks, for the recipes and just to find new ideas.
My favorite things to cook
My husband likes regular meat and potato meals but is getting more adventurous. I like to try anything but really enjoy Italian food and making fresh pasta. We also love chicken wings, pizza, etc., which we make at home as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up we always had Christmas and/or New Years with my mothers side fo the family. Usual holiday fare made better by sharing with family. These days most holidays are spent with my husbands family. They are a large and close knit group. Chirstmas brunch is with my side of the family and a great time. My sister always makes cookies for everyone to take home.
My cooking triumphs
Fresh pasta is my special skill. I like to try new deserts as well. Figuring out how to make a meal that I've had in a restaurant is the best and most times I can get pretty close. Sometimes even better as I can make it just like we want.
My cooking tragedies
A lasagna made with low fat cheese. That cheese was like plastic. More recently, a shrimp and mixed vegetables dish. I mixed up the cornstarch with icing sugar. Sugary shrimp anyone?

Rhubarb Stir Cake
Great cake. I used about 3 cups of rhubarb as that is what I had. I also added some butter to the topping as suggested in earlier reviews. This cake is as good as the reviews say. I brought it to work this morning and everyone loved it. I also used cinnamon rather than nutmeg and added about 1/2 tsp to the batter as well. I will definitely make this again. I want more now.

Cranberry Orange Loaf
I loved the cake. Ny husband who does not like cranberries did not. I had a similar cake this Chirstmas at my sister and had everyintention of trying it but found this one here. I brought 1/2 of the remaining cake to work the next day but forgot to give it out until the end of the day. Got rave reviews. I took the rest in today and again the response was great. Someone even offered to pay me to make them one. I followed the recipe and did not chop my cranberries. They were small though, and I can see why if they were large chopping would be required. Use lots of zest. It makes it taste great.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings
We tried this recipe on Friday before the Superbowl. I made half the wings with my usual method of just frying the wings then adding sauce and half this way with the flouring. In a side by side taste test, these wings won hands down. Both were eaten, mind you but everyone thought these were better. Nice and cripsy. I have just cut and floured 3 dozen wings to fry up in about an hour for pregame festivities.
