About this Cook
When I was younger, my mother rarely cooked. (She claims it's because we wouldn't eat what she fixed.) So, out of necessity, I had to learn to cook! However, I never complained because I found it to be a relaxing and enjoyable activity.
My favorite things to cook
Everything! I'll try it all! However, recipes need to include easy to find ingredients. I don't have time to look for specialty foods stores.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother always made Hot German Potato salad at Christmas. My stepmother's chocolate pecan pie and my dad's yeast rolls are a huge part of any holiday get together. They are the best!
My cooking triumphs
Cheesecake!
My cooking tragedies
Until recently, I could not master pie crust.

Pumpkin Bean Soup
I followed the reviewers advice and added curry & ginger. Delicious! I didn't have tomato sauce on hand so I used a can of diced tomatoes and a shot of tomato paste. Fantastic way to use up leftover ingredients from Thanksgiving!

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie
I've made this pie for Thanksgiving and Christmas for three years now. It's a favorite in our family. I've used both bourbon and whiskey. I often mix dark and milk chocolate chips. The recipe is great as written - the only variation depends on the type of alcohol. Strong whiskeys and bourbons (like Jack Daniels) need to be cut back to 3 tbls. Smoother, lighter alcohol (like Gentleman Jack) as written.

Quinoa Tabbouleh
I was out of bulgar wheat and was glad to find a good grain substitute. I normally don't add carrot to my tabbouleh. I actually finely decided my carrot, and it provided some sweetness and a nice crunch. Good recipe. I can see myself making it again.
