About this Cook
We're about to move into our brand new house!! Yay!! Can't wait to get into that new kitchen and do my thing! Earlier this year, we traveled to Germany to visit family for a few months. I loved being there and trying the food! I want to try out some German recipes from Allrecipes as soon as we get into our new house. I love to cook and bake. I love trying new recipes from Allrecipes! Lately, I've been trying a new recipe most nights of the week. I hardly ever use cookbooks anymore, although I do still love looking at them. I enjoy learning about health and nutrition..sometimes that is reflected in my cooking, sometimes not! (My username used to be Mitch103, so you may see a recipe or two under that name. ;) ) I lived in Spain for 9 years growing up and attended school on a US Navy base there. Therefore, I have no hometown. ;)
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. I love making cookies, brownies, special cakes, and other fun desserts. In my baked goods, I usually replace at least some of the white flour with whole wheat. Usually you can't even tell- if anything, stuff tastes better! I also make a lot of chicken dishes. I am always on the lookout for my next one! I also love making (and eating!) cheesecakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom makes a great Thanksgiving dinner. We're never together on Thanksgiving, but I carry on the tradition of her great food, throwing in my own specialties of course! My little family is having fun creating new traditions, mixing the old and the new.
My cooking triumphs
I'm trying to master yeast breads and still have a lot to learn. It's a good feeling to have a loaf of bread you've made with your own two hands. I've also recently tackled making fudge. Anything that turns out well and is delicious is a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
Only that I haven't had my "own" kitchen for a few months!

Chicken Satay
This had a good flavor and was easy to put together. Served with coconut rice and steamed snow peas.

Whole Wheat Refrigerator Rolls
This is a good roll recipe- and convenient to have it rise overnight in the fridge. I do prefer recipes made with butter, though, because I think they are a little more tender. But there were still really good. I let them rise about 1.5 hours the day after before baking. Perfect. I made mostly cresents, and a dozen round rolls in a cake pan. I got 4 dozen, but they were all different sizes.

Smoked Paprika Goulash for the Slow Cooker
This was very yummy and easy to prepare. I totally ignored the salt amount (I know AR changed it from 2 tablespoons to 2 teaspoons, but still, that is WAY too much). I was fine with just a sprinkle of salt- the tomato paste has a lot of salt in it already. I'd salt to taste about an hour or so before you serve it. I used a mix of Spanish smoked paprika, and sweet Hungarian paprika (didn't want to use up all of my smoked paprika in one shot!). There was a nice hint of smoke. I only used one pound of meat- 3 lbs would have been way too much for us. This was a very flavorful and hearty dish.
