I have never participated in a blog, so here goes...  I've wanted to be in the kitchen for as long as I can remember. Even if it was just to make kool-aid (black cherry, preferably) or my parents morning coffee. I used to get in trouble regularly for getting up before my parents on the weekends… MORE

About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Seafood! I also love to bake and fiddle around with recipes every chance I get!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving and everything about it. I will work on Christmas just to be off on Thanksgiving.
My cooking triumphs
Believe it or not it was a fried egg. I only make them scrambled, so when I met my current boyfriend 13 years ago I had to learn how to make "dippy eggs" without leaving the whites runny. I went through DOZENS of eggs trying to get it just right. Glad they're cheap!
My cooking tragedies
Steak-umm burritos. They were SO bad.

Microwave Bread and Butter Pickles
Very Yummy! Reduced sugar to 3/4 cup and added 1/4 tsp of red pepper flakes per another's review and a couple of mini bell peppers just to add some color. I'm not sure they'll make it to the fridge cuz my boyfriend won't stop eating them! He said the peppers are really good, too.

Fluffy Scrambled Eggs
While edible, these were not my favorite scrambled eggs. They were kinda sweet and smelled too much like baby formula from the addition of the evaporated (I did not add sweetened condensed, before anyone feels the need to ask) milk. I had the same issue when I used condensed milk in my mac n cheese one time also. Usually I just leave one egg yolk out for every 3 eggs I use, add a splash of milk or even just water and they come out pretty fluffy.

Barbecued Shrimp
7/27/2010: SO GOOD!!! Made it with EZ peel shrimp for dinner one night last week and am making it again tonight. Make sure you have some bread to soak up that yummy sauce! Had to use and vinegar cuz I didn't have lemons. *Update* 1/3/2011: I have made this at least once a month since I found the recipe using lemons, limes, or vinegar and it is STILL one of my favorite dishes!! I think I'll make it again this weekend :)
