About this Cook
Wife of one and mom of four. Love love love to cook and have since a very young age. It's all about family, friends and tradition.
My favorite things to cook
I am very interested in any recipe that has a history, a story, a tradition, a family behind it. To me, that is what elevates a recipe. I enjoy all types of cooking but am particularly fond of certain ingredients (vanilla, pumpkin, spinach, chocolate, cheese, cream, chicken, lobster, apples, cranberries, Phyllo, onions, butter...) and tend to focus my cooking and baking around them. Being Irish, I have have a soft spot for traditional Irish fare as well.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a few treasured recipes that were my mother's and grandmother's, as well as a few recipes I concocted myself, that I just adore making for my friends and family. These special dishes are made for special events such as birthdays and Christmas and are ALWAYS looked forward to.
My cooking triumphs
I went to a pie auction and had a winning bid on a white chocolate raspberry tart with a nut crust. It was to die for but the woman who made it didn't like me too much (I was bidding against her friend & won...$32 later), and would not give out the recipe. After five attempts (not a cheap recipe), I finally figured it out!
My cooking tragedies
As much as I enjoy making breads, muffins, biscuits, etc, biscuits seem not to be my strong point. I have tried (on more than one occasion) to make light and fluffy, good tasting biscuits which turned out to be harder than rock and not so tasty (on more than one occasion)!

Pistachio Cream Pie
Very happy with this recipe! Went to a party where it was being served and thought, as I looked at it, that it would probably taste "soggy" or "mooshy" but was definitely suprised. I went back for another helping and the pan was completely empty! I have since made it and never tire of it. It is sweet but it is after all a dessert.

Apple Pie Spice Mix
I had apples for a pie today but no apple pie spice. I followed the recipe and...WOW...the aroma...apples & Autumn in a jar! I love this spice and will share it in my holiday food gift baskets I make! Thank you.

Pumpkin Pie Spice II
What can I say about this but super easy to make, great aroma and a wonderful way to make any dish really homemade. I'm going to make more spice blends around the holiday for gifts!
