The chief cook and dishwasher
About this Cook
I am a nurse, single mother, cook and appreciator of great food though not in that order!
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook just about everything. I experiment and create my own recipes as well as following an occasional recipe from letter to letter.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking is big in our family. We all have favorites and have actually put together cookbooks from combining family favorites
My cooking triumphs
I have done some great fun formal dinners and some easy on the run unexpected company throw downs
My cooking tragedies
I made a fish recipe that was totally horrid. It was a fish mush garbage pail ending. My family will never let me live it down. Truly a nightmare.

Venison Chili
A Very Hearty Chili! Different from any I have ever had before. The flavor is quite good. I used ground venison also, whole can of tomato paste, used southwestern blended chipotle chili powder and doubled it. I cooked it on high in the crock pot for 1.5 hours and served it with Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread. Thought we had died and we went to heaven stomach first!

Connie's Zucchini 'Crab' Cakes
I am not sure that I would go so far as to believe for a moment that these could as good as my crab cakes but they are exceptional none the less! My daughter doesn't eat eggs, and these work fine without them. I also made them with just spray oil to the pan to reduce the fat. No problem. I made extra to take to lunch this week with some homemade gazpacho too. Really good combo, and good for you too
