Fresh Rhubarb Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
We liked it though the rhubarb was still a little crunchy in some places. I even baked it for 20 minutes longer. I added blueberries as well. I put whip cream on it before serving. My daughter, who hates bread pudding, ate a bowl and said it was good.

Grilled Venison Backstrap

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
A friend of ours gave us 1/2 a backstrap from his deer. We didn't tell our daughters it was venison, just said it was fillet minion wrapped in bacon. Each girl ate two big steaks! They never knew it was venison. If they did, they NEVER would have touched it. The look on their faces when we told them (after dinner) was priceless. We grilled 7 big steaks and only had one little guy left. I didn't have apple cider so I cut up an apple and threw it in the blender with some water and used that. Worked fine. I didn't marinade the meat in BBQ sauce. I just rubbed a little on each side after I put the bacon on. I used thick sliced bacon and it didn't cook well enough so next time I'll use regular bacon. very, very, delicious! I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2008
Since my cake pans are large I doubled everything and made a 4 layer cake for my husband's retirement party. It was beautiful and tasted so good that everyone couldn't stop talking about it. I'm sorry I didn't get a picture as people would never have guessed it was home made! The cake was moist, filling was perfectly set, and though I had made the cake several hours ahead of time, the frosting didn't lose it's shape or slide down the cake. I made a doily out of paper cut with hearts then sprinkled cocoa over it with chocolate curls in the center and sides of the cake. WOW!I also used more flavoring. The best tasting and most attractive cake I've ever made in my life! Thank you!

Chicken Puffs

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
This was so good my husband asked for it two nights in a row! I left out the butter and added fresh basil and green pepper from the garden. We are having a small retirement party and I'll be making these for our guests! Thank you so much!

Rhubarb Surprise Pie

Too much sugar sitting on top, though my husband liked the crunch because he didn't know it was a cup of sugar. Don't think I'll use this recipe again.

Prize Winning Baby Back Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
I didn't believe it but my baby backs turned out just like the ribs from a pit BBQ! Until now I had always pre-cooked my ribs in the oven and finished them on the grill. No more! My husband is from Texas and half way through dinner he paused and said "You aren't going to cook them any other way are you? They taste just like home." Need I say more? I kept the grill temp. at 300 and cooked them for an hour and 1/2. These ribs were tender and delicious without being over cooked and falling off the bone, which we don't like. I even threw several chunks of chicken on the grill with the ribs and they also came out perfect. I haven't been this excited about a new recipe in a long time. Thank you so much for posting this 5+ star recipe!

Delicious! I marinated my albacore longer than the recipe called for. Mine came out so juicy!

Spice Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
I never liked cake doughnuts but since I had a pot of oil to use I decided to try this recipe. These are the lightest cake doughnuts I've ever made. We LOVE them! I used pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon in mine. After mixing I let the dough sit in the bowl for 15 minutes before deep frying so the BP could work. The dough was nice and puffy even raw. Instead of dropping spoonfulls in the hot oil I wet my fingertips slightly and gently pulled the dough flat-ish. Much easier to cook this way. Not only do they stay turned over when you turn them, but you can be sure the insides won't be doughy like fat golf balls can be. I dipped them in a very thin glaze. I've already eaten 4!

Made this for a Halloween pumpkin carving party. Every single person asked for the recipe. Our favorite was dipping them with ginger snaps and apples.

South Beach Peanut Butter Cup

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2005
My husband and I have each lost over 15 pounds in a little over a month on the SB Diet. We've never felt like we're suffering like most diets. The PB cup recipe is almost too sweet after not eating any rich foods. But next time I'm using less PB. Makes a wonderful once or twice a week dessert. Certainly puts an end to those sweet treat cravings you might have.

Anadama Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2005
This is my daughters favorite bread. She askes me to make it for every one of her birthday dinners. I end up using more water while cooking the corn meal mush. I also use a little less than 1/2 C. molasses. The recipe makes one huge loaf that stays nice and soft. Delicious toast, great for sandwiches if it lasts that long. It's simple to make and we love it.

Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2005
Very good! I didn't use chicken and used less broth. My husband loved it as did I. I used smoked Andouille sausage which made it hot and spicy! Didn't have Roma tom. but I don't think it mattered. Can't wait for shrimp to go on sale so we can dine Cajun style again! Oh, great eaten with anadama bread.

Cream Puff Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2005
I was so tired of plain old cake and frosting that I decided to make this for our daughter's birthday cake. One bite and my husband and other daughter both said 'I want this for my birthday!'. No kidding, it was that good. I put a layer of Magic Shell on the crust then put it in the freezer so the chocolate could harden, then put the filling on. The chocolate kept the filling off the crust. Mine did not stick or get soggy. I also put magic shell on the top and chocolate bar shavings. Thank you so much Nancy! I know I'll be making this one again and again. Especially when we want a cool summer dessert!

Chai Tea Mix

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2005
We made this when my daughter came up for a visit. Although a little expensive to start off with, (cardamom) it makes a lot, and is well worth it. We used our Vita Mixer and ground it into a fine powder. Excellent! just as good or better than the expensive store bought. Just don't leave out the Cardamom. It's what makes the Chai tea. And grind it as fine as you can. Thank you Jo!

This is one of the very best cookie recipes I've found in years! Do double the recipe or you won't have any the next day. I added 1 t. Karo syrup and the cookies stayed nice and chewy even after 3 days! I didn't make the filling. Thanks so much Joanne!

FYI the bitter taste is from the white part of the lemon peel. Squeeze a little lemon over it next time. Grate the zest, but you never want to put the white part in any dish.

Slow Cooker Lentils and Sausage

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2005
For those of you that couldn't get your lentils to cook: Adding any acid food such as tomatoes will slow down the cooking time and you'll end up with hard lentils. Add tomatoes after the lentils are nearly cooked through. This should be in the cooking directions. I also added cajun seasoning, onion, garlic, fresh parsley etc. served with corn bread like red beans and rice. Yum

New England Clam Chowder II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2005
My Dad made this same chowder when I was a kid- all except the heavy cream. We always mixed the bacon in the soup with the clams instead of a garnish. That way you get the yummy bacon flavor. I've never seen NE Clam chowder served with the bacon as a garnish but I live in the Pacific N.W. far away from New England. If you like clam chowder, this is the way to do it!
