About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I tend to bake more than cook. I love homey recipes and usually volunteer to make pies for family gatherings at the in-laws.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My fondest memories are of my mom's baking at the holidays and for special occasions-Swedish Kringle, Cherry Wreath, cookies galore!. My dad was the one that told me "gravy is the easiest thing to make" and was the meat and potatoes/hotdish/chili guy.
My cooking triumphs
My brother loves my banana bread (a Betty Croker recipe of all things) and demands it as a down payment when I go visit his family. My first turkey for 12 people when in my first apartment made my dad proud. People I work with love my Confetti Egg Strata "egg bake" (a Pampered Chef recipe). Also, a real baked cheesecake is my major claim to family fame.
My cooking tragedies
Having baked cookies gillions of times with my "2nd mom" across the street, I thought I knew enough. The first time on my own, I didn't realize you had to mix things in stages. I put ALL the ingredients in the bowl at once, flour all the way to chocolate chips and mixed. They fried to the pan and I had to add something like 3 cups of flour to make them work...and it did. Hey, I was 12...live and learn. Um, mixing gravy mix and hot water in a closed container makes it hit the ceiling when shaking...3T of cayenne instead of 3t of chili powder for my dad's chili recipe makes for 6 portions of "chili starter"

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies
I've only tried cut-out sugar cookies once several years ago and never tried again because they seemed frustrating to me to roll out even though the recipe is so simple. But this year I decided to take a shot at it. My mom loves this recipe as I found out she has used it recently with great results...and I didn't know she had found it too! The cookies turned out great! I have a tiny kitchen with not much counter space but in small batches things worked out great! The cookies baked perfectly. I use Pampered Chef stoneware baking sheets so you do have to adjust the baking time at first until the stones are fully heated (and my oven doesn't have a window which drives me nuts...but watch carefully and it all works out). This recipe is surely a keeper and has dispelled my fear of cut-out cookies! I think I might experiment with different flavorings like almond, lemon, etc. Thanks for a great recipe!

Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies
About the only "adjustment" I made was not cooling the cookies on the pan for the directed 20 minutes. The first pan I did that on were slightly hard to remove. But I also didn't make them as big. I got about 40 cookies out of the batch. They were hailed as delicious by my brother and his family-I am invited back to stay any time! lol

Chicken Paprikash II
There are several spaetzle recipes this would be great with. I saw a Hungarian soup recipe in our local paper and it makes me curious for other Hungarian fare. This sounds delish and I will make it and update my rating! ;-)
