About this Cook
I have recently gotten more involved with cooking because I'm back on a student's budget can't afford to eat out anymore! Now cooking is a great hobby of mine that I love sharing with friends and family.
My favorite things to cook
Anything vegetarian, especially healthy casseroles I can get a week's worth of dinners out of. I also love, love, love to bake, and to both of our benefits my boyfriend got me a pink KitchenAid mixer that lets me bake goodies faster and more often!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up I used to sit in the kitchen and talk to my parents as they cooked, and I remember those and some of the best conversations we had. Now I enjoy having someone keep me company in the kitchen while I cook! I also don't mind a drink and some good music as companions either :)
My cooking triumphs
Making my boyfriend's favorite family recipe just the way his mother made it. I was honored to get a copy of the recipe (the only one outside the family!) and love being able to make my boyfriend's favorite comfort food. Another triumph was making homemade gnocchi, each one shaped nicely with the tines of a fork - they looked like they were from a restaurant!
My cooking tragedies
The first time I tried to bake a cake, a really simple half-homemade one, it didn't end up setting, so I had "Cake-in-a-Bag," which was yummy, but had to be eaten with a spoon... Also, before I knew anything at all about cooking, I tried to make fudge. With no candy thermometer I didn't get the cooking time right and ended up making a fancy ice cream topping instead. Again, yummy, but required a spoon!

Cow Pies
Hm... I guess I had some technical difficulties with these? They did not spread like cow pies :( so I had to pat them down a bit. Also, after 10 minutes they seemed nowhere near done. Maybe I made them too big (~3" diameter)? They needed to cook at least 13 minutes and were still raw-ish in the middle. However, they are super yummy, and maybe by tomorrow they'll have set up a bit.

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup
Oh dear. This must be eaten in teacup-size portions it's so rich! I'm quite pleased. Skimped just barely on the amounts of cream and butter, but it's still pleeeenty rich! I also had to add a maybe 2 Tbsp of sugar to balance the flavors. I was skeptical about not adding onions or garlic or something, but this soup is lovely in its simplicity. I'll make it again for sure. Thanks, Marbalet!

Darra's Famous Tuna Waldorf Salad Sandwich Filling
Awesome! I'm not usually a huge fan of tuna, but this is a totally different way to eat tuna. Used Miracle Whip just to see how it worked, and I think it was nice with the sweet/tangy nature of the recipe. I'll add additional curry to my sandwiches, but fiance isn't much of a curry person. Maybe next time I'll add some halved grapes? I will make this again and again - thanks bunnybunny!
