Bucket of Margaritas

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
This received lots of complements by serious drinkers at our party. We used Reposado tequila because that brand tends to agree with more people. Pre-making this drink allows the host to have more time to socialize rather than bar-tending plus you don't have bottles all over the place. I made plenty and enjoyed leftovers later in the week. Despite all of the alcohol, this froze solid in our deep freeze. We defrosted it a little in the microwave then used a sturdy spoon to scrape ice into cups. The frozen aspect slows the drinking down which is nice for a social gathering. The drink has very good flavor but doesn't taste strong. Yet still, it's very effective. The plastic pitcher I used cracked from the freezer.

Gobble Up Granola Snacks

I made these just like the recipe except for the raisins because I wasn't going to let that stop me from having a sugar treat today. Next time I will try Chocolate Crispies. Less messy than Rice Krispie Treats.

Special Cereal Bars I

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
I should have used my better judgement and omitted the melted chocoate. It was so messy and sugary that I couldn't package these for school like I hoped. I liked the blend of Cheerios, Crispies and Chocolate Cripies which was also handy for using up nearly empty boxes of ceral in the pantry. These are very satisfying. They filled me up and satisfied my sweet tooth. My son came home asking for them every day until they were gone. The bars were hard as a rock from the fridge but softened up within 5 minutes on the counter. Worth trying, but I think these were too sweet and messy for us to make again.

Zucchini Boats on the Grill

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2008
I used planto crumbs instead of bread and real bacon due to preference. Super yummy. Took a lot of time to make and made a mess in the kitchen but was worth it. Very filling so this was our only side with out pork chops.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2008
This was easy to make. I used left over spaghetti sauce since I didn't have any tomatoes on hand. I used celery instead of zucchini because that's what I had. My husband was amazed that there wasn't any seasoning in it. This was super easy to make. I liked the white beans.

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

This is our favorite chili recipe. I don't change anything and it comes out perfect every time! We serve with corn bread and everyone spices it to taste at the table (habenero hot sauce). Even my kids love this recipe and take it to school for lunches.

Penne Pasta with Spinach and Bacon

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2008
This made a fast lunch but I will not make it again. It didn't have much flavor. I would have prefered a sauce over it. I didn't like canned tomatoes in it. I think fresh tomatoes would have been a better choice.

Stuffed Yellow Squash

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2005
We had this for Christmas dinner and it was a hit, even with the kids. It was very flavorful and didn't taste like vegetables. It took a lot of effort (like an hour!) to prepare but was worth it for our special meal. We liked the ability to prepare it ahead of time and stick it in the oven just a few minutes before eating.

Outstanding! Great texture (similar to coffee cake texture). Tasted similar to pineapple upside down cake but much better.

A Very Popular BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2004
This was very sweet so next time I will start with less sugar. Loved the idea of putting it in the ketchup bottle, worked out great. The consistancy was great. This would have been great as-is for ribs but I was serving with chicken so I added 1-1/2 tsp of liquid hickory flavoring and about 1/2 of cup of pre-made hot bbq sauce to season it up. Everyone liked it and just as good as store-bought.

Mushrooms does not mix well with crab. I should have noticed the high reviews were from folks who used cream of chicken. What I did like was that it was very thick, quick, and no mess.

Pork Chops with Apples, Onions, and Sweet Potatoes

Outstanding! I peeled the yams. I added a little more brown sugar and also some cinnamon. My apples were done sooner than the rest so I removed them. Chops were very juicy.

Sour Cream Mushroom Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2004
This tasted a lot like cream of chicken helper. 1 used 1 cup of sour cream which was plenty and I replaced the mushrooms with fresh steamed broccoli. I cut the chicken in cubes and cooked on the stove top which took half the time and was juicy. Was quick and the kids enjoyed it.

Glo's Sausage Fried Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2003
I can't believe my kids ate three servings of this! I was skeptical of the pork sausage but it added a wonderful flavor. I just used 1 cup of uncooked rice and 1 carrot which was plenty. It did lake a lot more effort than I was hoping for.

Lighter Banana Muffins

These were too dry and tasteless for us. I had to make a batch from a different recipe to please the crowd. Could easily be spruced up with a little more mositure and flavor.
