About this Cook
I started out knowing nothing and now I feel like I can make a good show of anything thrown at me. (in the kitchen, at least.) I'm more of a jack-of-all-trades, master-at-none, kind of person.
My favorite things to cook
Ethnic meals. I love researching different cultures and then trying their foods. I made a list of "national" dishes of tons of countries and I love trying them out. Luckily my husband is pretty adventurous, and hopefully my kids will be.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have this Cranberry Salad recipe handed down from at least three generations that we only eat at the holidays. It's pink, sweet, beautiful and deeeelicious. It wouldn't be a proper Christmas or Thanksgiving without it.
My cooking triumphs
Our Holiday Turkeys. My husband and I have perfected our barbecued turkey. It is delicious. We always put apple-berry-cherry juice in with the brine which dyes the bird pink. So when it's dinner time, we always say, "Time for Pink Tom!"
My cooking tragedies
My first year of marriage I was trying to cook from scratch. My husband is an excellent cook and so we decided that I would do the cooking so I could learn. Simple terriyaki fish over rice. Well, I hadn't yet found out that my husband doesn't like fish, so with that in mind you can tell this is going to be a sad ending. I cooked the fish in a frying pan and poured terriyaki sauce on it when it was done. I served it over rice. That was it. I didn't know that you don't use terriyaki sauce straight as the main sauce. It was sooooo salty, my husband and our friend couldn't eat it. They tried, bless them, but it was no use. "*beedeebeep beedeebeebeep* Hello Pizza Warehouse?"

Dee's Mexican Rice
This was very good. Easy to make and I didn't have to buy any extra ingredients. It makes enough for our family, which is nice. I followed the recipe exactly.

Spinach and Rice (Spanakorizo)
I love this stuff. You simply have to use the lemon and feta cheese. It's great the next day, and the next, if it lasts that long. Delicious.

Poor Man's Sandwich
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this recipe. This was a staple of mine in high school (minus the onion, though. Never have been a fan of the raw onion.) I have to admit that I loved telling my friends "what I was in the mood for" and watching their faces. Actually, I'm a mother of four and I still love telling my friends that I'm hungry for this sandwich and watching their faces. I'm a dill pickle fan. Heavy on the mayo, heavy on the peanut butter, heavy on the pickle...Delicious!!
