Restaurant-Style Taco Meat Seasoning

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
Didn't taste quite like The Bell to me but it was still really great. Much better than the packaged stuff. Didn't have masa and wasn't about to run out for it. I used cornstarch and it worked fine. I'll definitely make it with masa in future as I'm sure it would add something to it. Used in the Taco Pie from this site. I'll use this recipe to make taco meat from now on.

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2008
Came out AWESOME but I'm not sure how it would've turned out without making the changes so many have suggested. Used a springform pan. Did the full 2 cups flour but upped the milk to 3/4 cup and added an additional egg. Used all of the topping (cuz that's the best part IMO) and about a cup and a half of frozen blueberries. The batter is really thick so the blueberries didn't sink. Professional looking and tasting results.

Marinated Flat Iron Steak

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2008
Delicious! I marinate for a good 24 hours. I think th ehoney and balsamic giv eit great flavor. I've even used this for a giant chuck steak and threw everything along with some potatoes, carrots, onion and stock into a crock pot and made a kind of pot roast out of it.

Portuguese Sweet Bread I

Deeelish!! You don't need a bread machine. I do mine by hand as you would any standard loaf of bread. My Bf's favorite. if I go a week or two without making it he asks for it. When the bread starts to get a bit dry it makes great french toast.

A little time consuming but an impressive looking alternative to store bought crackers. I brushed mine with egg white and then different combinatins of garlic powder, italian seasoning, salt, pepper, parmesan and cayenne. pepper.

Baked Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2008
Removed the skin and used the seasoning for Sticky Rotisserie Chicken. Stuffed with onion and a couple cloves peeled garlic. Put potatoes and carrots on the bottom instead of tin foil balls and added a small amount of chicken broth to the bottom (1/2 cup?). Meat definitely fell off the bone. Used leftovers for soup and tacos. Great if you are looking to make the bird in a slow cooker but I still prefer to roast mine in the oven.

Byrdhouse Marinated Tomatoes and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2008
Another winner from Sunny!! Made it two nights ago for my BF and he loves it! I don't like tomatoes or mushrooms (weird) so I was feeling left out watching him inhale it. Last night I remembered I had some raw green beans. He had eaten almost all of the tomatoes and mushrooms and there was plenty or marinde left so I threw in some green beans. I'm having them for lunch. Delicious!! Thanks Sunny!

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2008
Very good!!! Used fresh garlic (a big heaping tablesoon) instead of powder in the sauce. Used only 2 chicken breasts instead of four but kept spices and sauce amts as the recipe stated. Still could've used a lil more butter/lime juice. Will definitely make again. I'm eating the leftovers cold out the fridge, would be awesome sliced on a salad.

Parmesan Cheese Straws

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2008
I loved them! Not really like breadsticks though. More like a crumbly buttery cracker. After brushing them with milk I sprinkled more cheese on some and garlic powder on other. I loved the cayenne. It gave them just a tiny amount of heat.

Green and Bleu Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2008
So Yummy! Wasn't sure I'd like it, afraid there might be too much going on for my tastes but I was mistaken. It was fabulous! Made a few changes. Forgot the green onions, had sugar snap peas instead of regular peas and used goat cheese instead of bleu. Every bite is so full of flavor. And the dressing really brought out the flavors rather than masking them. BF didn't beleive me when I told him the secret ingredient was lemonade. I made extra dressing to have whenever I put a salad together. I'll feel a lot less guilty using this delicious dressing than smothering my salad in some creamy concoction. Spinach and Strawberry Salad has been my fav for a few years but this beats it, hands down. Well done, Sunny, well done.

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2008
Delicious! Used Smithwick's Irish Ale. Not bitter at all, just a very slight beer taste. Poured 1/4 cup melted butter over the top before baking as well. Even better the second day. I made it for St. Paddy's Day and served with honey butter. Will make again and again.

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2008
WOW!!!! This is my new favorite allrecipes recipe and my new favorite soup. I ate the entire pot (save the one bowl my bf got) over the weekend. So, I made another pot today. I think it would've been fabulous with no changes made but naturally I couldn't help myself. Changes I made...used 3 cups homemade stock and 3 cups water/ chicken base (Minor's brand). Because I used chicken base I omitted the salt. I chopped a small onion and clove of garlic and cooked for a minute in butter/seasoning mixture before adding flour. I reduced flour to 1/2 cup. Used half and half instead of cream. For the chicken I used 1 giant chicken breast that I grilled on my foreman and used the allrecipes Cajun Chicken marinade. So the chicken was pretty heavily seasoned. The folks who said this is restaurant quality are totally spot on. Tonight I'm making bread bowls and serving it in that.

Fabulous French Loaves

I'm new to baking bread and these came out great. I didn't do the egg wash or sesame seeds and put a dish of very hot water on the lowest oven rack when baking. Nice crunchy crust with tender insides.

Golden Crescent Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
Made great crescent rolls, although mine took more time than usual to rise. i gave them an extra hour during seocnd rise (2 hours total for second rise). I also wanted to thank Suzy for her review. I'm just cooking for my bf and me so half the dough made 8 good sized crescent rolls and I used the other half to throw together cinnamon rolls for dessert. Brilliant!

Bacon Roasted Chicken

Combined this with the sticky rotisserie chicken recipe. Used the seasoning mix for that recipe, stuffed with onion and garlic instead of carrots. Covered with strips of bacon and added 2 cups chicken stock to the pan. Best chicken I've ever made. The gravy was fabulous.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
Didn't have the patience to slow roast but I did use the seaoning mixture and double wrapped and put in the fridge for a few hours. I also put a tablespoon of chopped garlic inside with cavity with tghe onion, put a few tablespoons butter under the skin, topped the bird with a few strips of bacon and put two cups of stock in the pan to help start a gravy. Best chicken I've ever made. Next time I'll think a bit more ahead and do the slow roast.
