Holiday Cheese Spread

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
I absolutely LOVE this recipe! It is the exact one my grandma used to make every Christmas. Definitely use celery seed and garlic powder instead of their saltier counterparts. And I use 1/4 tsp of cayenne and it is perfect. This makes a HUGE cheeseball, so I make it into four little balls and freeze them and take them out if company's coming. They are even better after they've been frozen. :-) OH, and I use old Cheddar. Can't lose.

Slow Cook Thai Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2009
This was not that good. I will not be making it again. It looked like it would be really good, but I was disappointed. I am not sure what to do to make it better. Gave it two starts because it was easy to make.

Potato Wedges

These are delicious! A great alternative to French Fries and healthier too. Goes great with burgers and they are easy to bake when you are waiting for the meat to come off the grill. A summer favourite at our house.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2009
So very good. I feel bad rating this since I didn't make it exactly as written, but it was delicious! I didn't have cream of mushroom soup (I thought I did since it is a staple), so I used one can of condensed beef broth and one can of tomato soup instead. It was delicious. I can't wait to try this again with the mushroom soup, it will likely be even better. Oh, and I tossed in some quartered potatoes for the last 4 hours of cooking and they were almost as tasty as the roast. I will be making this again very soon.

Spicy Chipotle Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
I made these burgers last night (exactly as written) and did not enjoy them very much. They were quite bland, which was surprising given all the delicious ingredients. If I were to make these again, I would increase the chipotles to at least 3, add some minced fresh garlic and then top them with a stronger cheese. Maybe bleu cheese would be better. Overall, I wasn't impressed and won't be making them again. They were, however, a healthy alternative to beef burgers and I like that!

Monster Cookies VI

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
These cookies are soooooo good! I made them exactly as written, using mini M&Ms and chocolate chips. At first I was hesitant because there is no flour in this recipe, but it was worth the risk! I will be keeping this one and making these over and over again! Thanks for the great recipe Vicki!

Chicken Breasts Pierre

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
What a great recipe! It is easy, and tastes fantastic! The only changes I made, were cutting up the chicken into cubed before tossing it in the flour mixture, used crushed tomatoes, and I used 1/2 Chipotle chili powder and 1/2 regular chili powder. Otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly as written. I will be making this again, and again, and again.... Served it over basmati rice. Thanks Nancy for the delicious recipe!!

Brunch Enchiladas

This was quite tasty! Everyone really liked it and it was a great dish to make in advance. Other than using sausage instead of ham I followed the recipe exactly. I will make this one again.

Buffalo Style Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
Wow this pizza is GOOD! We've made it a few times and it is fantastic. We use left over chicken strips and Kraft blue cheese dressing. This pizza was a hit at our 2009 New Years party. People kept asking for more! Even those who hate blue cheese loved this pizza. This will be a keeper at our house. Thanks for the great recipe.

Eggnog Royale

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
I made this recipe last night for a company Christmas party held at my house. It did not go over well. Only three people tried it (myself included) and no one went back for a second glass. The colour is kind of off-putting and with the pieces of floating ice cream it looks rather unappetizing. The flavour was not horrible, but it wasn't very good either. I will not be making this recipe again.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
I gave this 3 starts because it was tasty but not WOW-delicious. Even with adding an extra egg and sour cream it was still dry. The chocolate flavour was perfect, but the texture is definitely too dry. I'll keep looking for the perfect chocolate muffin... sigh... if I must eat more chocolate :-)

Orange Mini Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
This recipe would be good on it's own, and is much better the next day once the orange flavor has a chance to go through the muffin. I made these changes (and would have rated it 5-star) - added 3/4 cup chopped dried cranberries - drizzled the muffins with a glaze while they were still warm Glaze: 1/2C Icing sugar 1/2 tsp Orange zest 4 tsp Orange juice. Then they were fantastic!

Azuki Ice Cream (Japanese Red Beans Ice Cream)

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2008
This was just OK. Not as good as most red bean ice creams i've had. It took a long time to make (with the beans boiling) and tasted great out of the ice cream maker, but after sitting in the freezer over night it had a flaky consistancy and tasted much grittier than I would like. My husband loved the way it tates and would probably give it at least 4 stars, but since I spent all that time - I give it only 2. I followed the recipe exactly as written.

Southwestern Pasta Salad

Reviewed: May 30, 2008
This is a delicious pasta salad and it looks pretty too. I followed some other advice and doubled the cumin and added a tsp of sugar. Also added about a 1/4 cup of chives to give it a kick. Didn't give it 5 starts because it does taste like something is missing... I just can't put my finger on it.

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
Wow! This was GOOD. I will not be going out for wings any more. Made 2 cahanges to the sauce: Added 2 tbsp hotsauce. Added 1 tsp white vinegar. So good. The coating on the wings was great, and will be a good base for other sauces.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
I made this for a New Years Eve party and it was a hit. Tons of people asked me for the recipe. Deeeelicious! I used marinated (drained) artichoke hearts and sour cream instead or mayo (since this is what I had on hand) and mixed the mozzarella in with the dip. I will be making this again and again until Richard Simmons comes knocking at my door... Thanks for the great recipe!

Banana Oatmeal Crumb Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
LOVED this recipe. Turned out perfectly and it is so easy to make. I took it to work this morning and it is gone (30 min into the work day). The only modification I made was to use pecans instead of walnuts. This is a keeper. Oh, and as per the other reviewers this is delicious warm out of the oven, but even better the next day.

Chicken Stew with Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2008
This was a delicious recipe that needed a few minor modifications. To speed up the cook time, I sautéed boneless skinless chicken breasts and thighs (equal amounts of each) in 2 tbsp butter with 3 cloves of garlic. Then added the thyme, basil, salt and pepper - double the spices the recipe calls for. Then added 4C. of prepared chicken broth and the veggies. Made the dumplings as written and they were fabulous! The stew is a little runnier than we are used to but it was delicious and the dumplings thickened the stew up a little bit. I will be making this again soon. Great comfort food on a cold day.
