I am a 30-something cook with varying interests. In the winter I crave BBQ, and in the summer I crave casseroles. A little backwards, I know. I have been cooking since I can remember and learned to bake a super young age as my mother was passionate about it. I love any food (except olives, although I keep trying them to no avail) and my favourite “date” is hanging out with my husband in the kitchen, cooking together and drinking wine.
My favorite things to cook
My favourite things to cook are Mexican foods, any pasta dish, and casseroles (I have recently acquires a taste for those that call for canned soup). I also love to bake anything. Biscotti and pies are my favourite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favourite family cooking traditions are as follows (in random order):
1- Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter at my mom’s house where we have the exact same meal three times a year. Turkey, ham, stuffing, potatoes, salads, sweet & sour meat balls, gravy, buns, etc, etc... WAYYYYY too much food, but then I get the leftovers!
2- Christmas Eve at my mother-in-law’s house. She is a fabulous cook and always has the best ham. We “steal” leftover ham to make Christmas morning breakfast at home.
3- Christmas morning eggs Benedict with stolen ham from the night before!
My cooking triumphs
Cinnamon buns baked in the morning and brought in to work for my co-workers. Nothing wins the acceptance of your peers like fresh cinnamon buns.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list. But one particular day last spring, I tried making a cake that flopped and then when I was putting the flour back into the pantry, the container slipped out of my hands and the flour exploded all over the pantry. Took hours to clean and I couldn't even sit down to a nice piece of cake when I was through... dang!
