Meh... This was okay. My husband and son loved it. The girls and I weren't impressed. Even with all the pepper and hot sauce, it was still pretty bland to me. And between the batter and the flour it was a huge mess to make. I don't mind a mess if the outcome is fantastic, but if it is just okay, it doesn't stay in our rotation. We'll be looking for another chicken fried steak recipe.

This recipe was exactly what I was looking for. So soft and yummy! I followed the suggestions of a few other reviewers and upped the amount of oats to 3 cups and added 1 tsp. of vanilla. You basically want the cookie dough to roll easily in your hands without sticking. If it isn't firm enough or is too sticky, it's going to spread out too much and your cookies will look like pancakes. Once the dough was the right consistency, I just made 1 1/4 balls and set them 2 inches apart on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. I baked for 11 minutes, and they came out perfect. I can't wait to try this with chocolate chips.

My picky kids devoured this. I thought for sure that they'd turn their noses up, but they loved it. My husband even had 2 helpings. I wasn't crazy about the crust--it seemed bland and the sage had a weird taste. I'm not sure I'd make the same crust again, but everything else was very good. I did double the chicken broth, cream of chicken soup, and flour mixture--which was a good thing. I also doubled the crust, which was also a good thing or there wouldn't have been enough crust to cover the 2-quart dish. We'll probably make this again with a few modifications.
