About this Cook
I'm 37, live with my husband and our zoo (we have 12 animals that share our house with us, all of them indoors). We love to eat and cook, but I'm better at both ;) I'm an artist, business owner and a SAHW.
My favorite things to cook
I love Middle Eastern Indian cuisine and am having a ball teaching myself. I also have a mean sweet tooth. Here lately I've been making a switch to vegetarian cooking and living. I love altering recipes to make them healthier and pared down for two. It's like a game to me and I have so much fun.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I go nuts baking during the winter holidays. It's kind of ridiculous since we live far from family at the moment, but I enjoy it anyway.
My cooking triumphs
My Best Burgers Ever recipe on this site, amazing chocolate peanut butter pie you would punch a baby for and the ability to make almost anything healthier.
My cooking tragedies
About 500 failed attempts at low sugar, low fat cookies.

Brown Sugar Shortbread
Brilliant recipe, exactly as it is. Make sure you first cream the sugar and butter thoroughly and add the flour a little at a time, blend well with each addition. you'll get chewy, crispy, rich shortbread. Fabulous!

Jan's Chocolate Cake
I was dubious given the very thin batter and lack of flavors in this recipe, but I increased the cocoa by 1/4c, added 1/4tsp cinnamon and 1tsp of vanilla and it made one great chocolate cake! I frosted it with a simple chocolate buttercream frosting and it probably won't last long around here. I think this will be my goto chocolate cake recipe from now on!

Black Bean and Corn Quesadillas
These were pretty good, but they really needed some spices as the final result was rather bland. Next time I'll add some cumin or a packet of taco seasoning. I also added a minced garlic clove and could've easily left out the brown sugar as the corn adds plenty of sweetness for us, the brown sugar almost made it too sweet.
