Premium Pizza Crust

Reviewed: May 2, 2011
I have been using Jays pizza crust for a few years and wanted to try something new. This crust, although it doesn't get brown, is crunchy and so good. I was very surprised that with little ingredients a crust could be so good. This made two pizzas because I like a thinner crust. I used a large round pizza pan and a jellyroll pan. I greased each with a small amount of shortening, as I found this really gives some crunch to the crust. Baked on 435 until cheese was brown. My new favorite dough recipe.

Nanny's Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2011
Very good recipe. I did not find the vinegar overpowering. I think if you use a better brand of ingredients you get a different taste. Although this recipe is simple it is delicious. I simmered with a lid on since others said it was very thick. This is exactly what I was looking for. It definitely reminds me of the sauces in the mom and pop italian restaurants that I love so much. I am going to use it tonight for homemade pizza. It is THAT good!

Guacamole

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
This was so good. I made it for my bunco group as a dip for the table. I should have doubled the recipe b/c it was a hit! I used half of a regular tomato, and not so much onion. The fresh lime is a must! This is the BEST!!

Very Fruity Rum Punch

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2010
I followed others advice and left out the banana liqueur, used half coconut rum, have dark rum and instead of granadine, used a splash of triple sec. I made four batches for my bunco group (12 women) and it disappeared. Everyone was feeling very happy at the end of the night. This one goes down easy, and then woosh....your gone!

Best Ever Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
I needed an easy recipes for muffins and this was definitely easy. I used 1.5 tsp vanilla, sour milk instead of regular, 1/2 wheat flour. Something was missing. I put a little batter in the muffin cup, sprinkled w/brown sugar and cinnamon, then topped w/more batter. Plus, I always top my muffins or quick breads w/cinnamon sugar mix to give it a little crunch. I will make again, but it definitely needs something to give it some zing.

Jenny's Grilled Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
I use this recipe often in the summer. I use split chicken breast and marinate the chicken overnight. I also use fresh garlic (2-3 cloves) and rub it all over the chicken (under the skin too). The meat is so juicy and the flavor is terrific!

Gob Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
I used two round pans for this recipe, and put the icing between the layers. The cocoa could definitely be tasted in the recipe (a bit bitter), but the cake is extremely moist. I used my own gob icing recipe and this really did taste like a large gob. Good recipe.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2008
LOVE this recipe! I made it twice and both times I read the recipe wrong! I melted the butter and mixed it with the cinnamon and sugar. The first time it melted out of the ends a bit. The second time I divided the dough in thirds, THEN filled it and rolled it. I used regular flour the first time and bread flour the second. I think I like the texture of the bread flour over the regular but it is delicious either way.

Quick Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2007
Recipe used all the ingredients I had and turned out very good. I took others suggestions and increased the amount of milk to 3/4 cup and sugar to 2/3 cup. I added tossed sweet cherries under the topping which definitely helped add flavor. I thought the baking temp was high and had to decrease to 350 and bake longer.

Baked Ziti III

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2007
Great recipe. I took the advice of another and tossed the ziti with the sour cream before layering. I will NEVER skip this step. The noodles stayed creamy and delicious. I browned ground pork, used left over ground beef, garlic and onion. I didn't have provolone so topped every layer with parmesan. I didn't need 2 jars of sauce as others said they did. very good.

World's Best Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2004
I craved potato soup the entire day and had a recipe in mind to use. I didn't have all the ingredients so did a quick search and found this. I wasn't sure how this would turn out. Some of the ingredients made me skeptical, however, this soup was a hit! I asked my husband if this was a keeper and he said DEFINITELY! My daughter said it was the best soup I ever made. Very good to warm you up on a cold night!

Sesame Beef

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2003
This recipe was delicious! I used a 1.5lb sirloin tip roast and sliced it paper thin while semi-frozen. This always makes the meat very tender and reduces cooking time. I doubled everything except the sugar and the taste was fabulous! My family devoured it! The next time I may add a bit of corn starch to thicken the liquid. I also added frozen broccoli. GREAT recipe!

Apple Cake IV

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2002
Great apple cake recipe! I added 1 cup of raisins and also decreased the sugar to less than 1.5 cups. I sprinkled the top generously w/cinnamon and sugar and tossed the apples w/cinnamon before adding to mixture. I have made other apple cakes and this one didn't get moist and gooey on top the day after I baked it. This recipe is perfect without being too rich or sweet.
