True-Blue Potato Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2007
This recipe got RAVES!! My friend even asked if I'd make it for her as my "gift" when she had her baby. My husband's work also went crazy over it at a potluck. I make the dressing while the potatoes are cooking, then peel them while still warm and mix the dressing with it at that time so the heat can draw the flavors into the potatoes better. I've made this with gorganzola once and blue cheese the next time and both were super yummy.

Breakfast Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
This recipe was a big hit at my baby shower brunch! I used croissants instead of the regular bread and increased the cheese & sausage amounts per the other reviews. People couldn't get enough of it! This will definitely be added to my Christmas breakfast menu as well. Highly recommended

Jo Jo's Favorite Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2005
I made these muffins according to the recipe (except I did add walnuts to some of them as dh prefers it that way). They were moist, light and full of banana flavor. I did place them in a storage bag while still slightly warm as others had warned about them drying out, but I don't know that it was absolutely necessary. I will be serving these along with a selection of other muffins on Christmas morning (freezing ahead to save time)

The taste of lemon and blueberry go very well together--hubby loved it. Would make this again.

Pastry Cream

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2004
This recipe will make an excellant filling for a cake. I tried it to use up leftover egg yolks from making angel food cake. It was a bit too rich for me to each by itself, but I can't wait to use it with devils food cake or something similar. Easy to make too!

Spiced Applesauce Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2004
This was a yummy, easy to make quick bread. It will smell like heaven while baking--and it tastes great too. Not too sweet, great moist texture. For me, the recipe worked great as is. The baking temp and time worked like a charm. And I truly love these autumn spices (pumpkin bread is a favorite of mine) so I felt that the spice levels tasted great to me.

Tomatillo Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2004
This soup was good. If you like green enchilada sauce, then you may like this as it is like a soup-version of green sauce. I did add some corn to give it more texture and color, as well as used a tidbit of instant mashed potatoes to thicken up the consistancy

Jesse and Steve's Fresh Strawberry Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2004
This cake was fabulous. I must admit that I did make some changes based on previous reviews. First of all, I used 1 cup mashed strawberries + 1 cup pureed strawberries, then added about 1/4 cup additional flour to compensate. I couldn't find raw sugar at my store, so I used 1 cup refined sugar. The result was a dense, but oh-so-moist cake that had plenty of great strawberry taste. I opted to use cream cheese frosting, which was great because the cake wasn't overly sweet so the frosting complemented it instead of overpowering it. My whole family loved it!

Charley's Slow Cooker Mexican Style Meat

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2004
This recipe is fabulous--with just a few minor tweaks. I used beef broth instead of water, used only 3 oz. of Tapatio hot sauce and added about 2 tablespoons of cumin. I really think that the cumin rounded out the flavor--this may be what is missing when previous responders complained of "heat with no flavor". Now I've got my mom's family hooked on it too--great with corn tortillas and cheese! Will make on a regular basis now.

Michelle's Peanut Butter Marbled Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2004
These brownies are absolutely fabulous (and I MUST say that they are much better the next day, so I recommend making them a bit ahead of time). They remind me of a "peanut-buttery" version of the cheesecake brownies at The Cheesecake Factory--Yummmy! As some people had noted trouble achieving the marbled affect, I'll share what worked for me. I dabbed the reserved brownie batter in small dots accross the surface of the peanut butter layer. Then I gently used a spatula to sort of "connect the dots" so that most of the surface was covered with the chocolate layer. Then I just went to town with a knife and actually dug in a bit while doing so. The result was a marbled brownie that was as pretty as it was delicious. This recipe is highly recommended and I didn't change a thing!

Angel Food Cake III

This recipe is absolutely fabulous! It tastes great and really is no harder to put together than the box mix version! I will be making this recipe often and have already passed it onto my mother who is excited to try it. Highly recommended for its good taste and ease of preperation.

Linzer Tarts

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2004
This recipe makes absolutely beautiful presentation. I liked the cookies even better the next day as they soften a bit. I do agree that the jam must be warmed in order to get that "gluey" affect. My family raved about them and my hubby's co-workers all want the recipe. While they are not my personal favorite as I tend to lean towards goodies with chocolate in them, they were very well received. Again, the presentation was absolutely gift-worthy.

Persimmon Cookies II

Not liking persimmon myself, I can't really give my personal oppinion. But I made these cookies at my husband's request and he says that they are absolutely fabulous! What I can say is that they were very easy to put together and I baked them exactly per the instructions. Happy baking:)

Amazingly Good Eggnog

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2003
This is a fabulously simple and great tasting recipe. I left out the rum as this time I made it more for "around the house" consumption rather than a party, but the flavor and consistancy was great. Also, you can play with the seasonings until it is as you want it. I think that this eggnog is a bit heavier on the cinnamon taste than store bought stuff, but I liked the warmth of the cinnamon. I really like nutmeg & cloves so I increased those a bit. All in all, this is one for the recipe box:)

B's Cordon Bleu Bundles

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2003
Well, I don't know what to say other than these were just okay. I love all of the ingredients that go into this recipe, and I also have similar prosciutto/chicken/cheese recipes that my family can't get enough of. But I made these a few days ago and there were plenty of leftovers that still have not been eaten. It wasn't a bad recipe, it just wasn't one of those meals that my family got excited about. I don't think I'll make these again.

Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2003
WOW! I just pulled my first batch of these out of the oven and ate my first cookie. These are fabulous! I made a double batch and added a bit of extra flour as I like a more cake-like texture. They came out moist on the inside and crispy around the edges. A perfect mixture of flavors and textures. This is bound to be a new favorite cookie. Highly recommended!

Orzo with Parmesan and Basil

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2003
This makes an excellent side dish! Very easy and quick. Much like rice-a-roni type dishes, but with a richer flavor. Another thing I love is being able to know exactly what is going into my meal, rather than adding some mystery packet of powder. I will definitely make this again!

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2003
This cake was fabulously moist and decadent! I didn't have 3 cake pans the same size, so I just used what I believe was a 10 inch springform pan and had to bake it for approximately 45 minutes. I was worried it would come out dry as others had mentioned, but it was so moist it almost tasted like a pudding-in-the-mix type cake. Wonderful--can't wait to make it again:)

Quick Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2003
Good tasting and healthy mean. I had to add another can of beans to this recipe to make it a bit less saucy, but that was not a big deal. I did add chili powder and ground cumin give this meal more of a "chili" type of a feel. Made regular rice seperately in my rice cooker and topped it with the bean mixture. Overall this was a good recipe.
