I didn't have red pepper flakes, so I used chili powder instead, and substituted tomato puree for a can of diced tomatoes, undrained. Also added fresh minced garlic to the onions and bell pepper and sauteed. This dish was absolutely wonderful if you like spicy food... very much like a good hot curry! Served it with yellow rice.
