About this Cook
I'm a native Atlantan and love to cook & bake. This recipe site is the first place I come to find different ideas on food preparation. I'll try anything once! :-)
My favorite things to cook
Baked goods! Each year for over 30+ years I have baked literally hundreds of thousands of cookies for my family, friends and coworkers. Year after year...I always give homemade Christmas cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Collecting cookbooks and recipes from magazines and product packaging. I created a cookbook using the recipes my grandmother had collected from clipping out of newspapers & magazines (circa late 1950's/early 1960's)! I have hundreds of cookbooks!
My cooking triumphs
This past Christmas (2005), I prepared a full Christmas feast in my new home (first Christmas) for my family. Everything was a total success and everyone loved what I had prepared.
My cooking tragedies
When I was a teenager (long time ago), I was trying to impress my boyfriend by cooking dinner. Fried fish & hushpuppies! The grease was too hot and browned the fish & hushpuppies to a beautiful golden brown...with raw fish & batter on the inside! :-(

Unbelievably Awesome Barbeque Chicken Pizza
I followed the recipe as written and found the marinara/bbq sauce was too runny. If I made it again, I'd cut back on the sauce. I used a pizza crust recipe and made my own instead of the pre-made. Prebaked in a 10" springform pan before topping the pizza and baking again made it much easier to remove.

Tiramisu II
OMG - this was absolutely fabulous!! The only alterations I made were from previous reviews: doubled the espresso to 1/2 cup and used 2 Tbsp. dark rum and 2 Tbsp. Kahlua painted on underside of lady fingers with a pastry brush. I also used a springform pan. Next time I'll be layering it in a loaf pan to make more layers and using just the Kahlua and no rum. Everything else is just right! My mothers had requested this for her birthday cake this year and she said it was just as she had imagined it would be! A must to use the mascarpone cheese and to allow flavors to mingle in the refrigerator for 2 days. Also, I didn't even use a full teaspoon of cocoa to sprinkle over the top - a full tablespoon would make it too thick IMHO. This one is definitely going in my recipe box to stay! You will NOT be disappointed - worth the time to make the homemade custard to end up with such an elegant and rich dessert will very little prep work!

Baked Penne with Italian Sausage
I haven't even put this together to put in the oven yet and the sauce tastes fabulous! I'll come back after dinner to update the review. BTW - I didn't have tomato sauce so I substituted a 14 oz. jar of pepperoni pizza sauce instead and add some fresh basil. I may just have to use this sauce recipe as my go-to meat sauce recipe! YUMMO!
